The Legacy Lions in addition to regional teams have successful teams that play in the EYBL Scholastic Conference of teams. This conference is made up of powerhouses with names such as Montverde, IMG Academy, Sunrise Christian, Oak Hill Academy, which span the length of the country. In their past Legacy has been able to achieve a high level of success when in 2016 they won the USA Prep National Championship, when NBA star Nic Claxton was on the roster.
The game viewed was a non-conference competition against Wilson Collegiate (GA) (17-9). The LEC Lions (14-7), Coached by 300+ game career winner BJ Jackson, came out on top 68-60. They had a lot of contributors to secure the win while three players stood out in the contest.

Deston is a do it all type of player. What impressed me most was the solid energy and the work he puts in. He is a wing type player that moves toward the hoop with a variety of strong moves. Usually, he is imposing his will on others, as he has bodies bouncing off of him. on those drives. I believe he had a couple of and ones on the day and it is easy to see that this might not just be an occasional thing from his style play. Standing at 6’6″ and possessing a solid frame he reminds of a Charles Barkley, without the extra weight, or a Larry Johnson, of UNLV or Charlotte Hornets, (I am probably dating myself with these examples). His team definitely relies on his play and the style he brings as they seem to feed off of energy. He ended the contest unofficially with 17 points.

This lengthy combo guard displayed athleticism and the ability to hit some tough shots. He made impacts in several areas of the contest by scoring 15 points, outside, inside, and on the move. He then grabbed 8 rebounds which is a huge number from the guard position. He then tallied 3 assists on the day to keep teammates involved. One of those assists came off of a dynamic pass on the interior which had the crowd jumping. I was impressed with his ability to have a quick elevated shot out of a bit of an unconventional shooting form. It works for him because he is shooting a high percentage on the year. As I mentioned he displays a unique ability in making tough shots like the double clutch 3-pointer late in the contest just when his squad needed it most.

The shooter hit on 3-5 shot attempts from deep and is hitting on 48% from deep on the season. He impressed with his ability to let the game come to him, his usually full court defense, his free throws (7-8), and with the near picture-perfect release on the deep shot. He finished the contest with an unofficial 16 points. Since being inserted into the point guard position over the last three games he is averaging 19.7 ppg which is up from his season average of 11 per contest.

Without this player they might not have won the game. He came in, especially late, and showed some stones at getting the ball in the hoop. He had two or three attempts at and ones. It was his ability to get to the line and convert that seemed to help take the air out of the other team.
