Najashi Tolefree Najashi Tolefree 6'6" | SF West Allis Central | 2022 State WI (6’6 2022 SF, West Allis Central)- Najashi put in a great all-around offensive performance in a win over Tosa East. The versatile wing handle the ball a lot for his team, and excelled at creating open looks for his teammates. Has the size on the perimeter to see over the defesne and zip in passes to open cutters, and he can also put the ball on the floor to draw in a double team and locate the open man. He finished around the rim at a high percentage whether he was posting up smaller wings, attacking off the bounce, and he even knocked down a pull-up jumper.
Danilo Jovanovich Danilo Jovanovich 6'6" | PF Whitnall | 2022 State WI (6’7 2022 F, Whitnall)- Danilo continues to take strides forward, and is in for a monster senior year at Whitnall. The Miami commit looks more explosive than he did last winter, and that showed as he threw down a transition dunk and then caught a backdoor alley-oop to start off the second half against Burlington. Scores with efficiency and has the post footwork to go to work down low against smaller forwards, or take bigger defenders off the dribble.
JR Lukenbill (6’4 2023 SF, Burlington)- Burlington struggled to get much going against Whitnall, and JR was one of the bright spots in that game. Didn’t put up big scoring numbers but showed off some of his versatility. At 6’4 he can play on the wing, but he also handled the ball at a lot for his team as more of a point-forward. He’s a composed ball handler who won’t turn it over much, and does a good job of getting to the lane where he can locate an open shooter or get all the way to the basket to finish. I have the feeling that he’s going to stuff the box score consistently for Burlington this winter.
Josh Terrian Josh Terrian 6'4" | SF Pewaukee | 2022 State WI (6’4 2022 W, Pewaukee)- With both Janowski brothers absent from Sunday’s games, Josh took on a bigger scoring role than usual. He knocked down two early threes and didn’t slow down from there as he kept on finding ways to put points on the board. The buckets included post up scores, a smooth spin-move in the lane, and a strong take to the basket that resulted in an and-one. As always he provided some tough defense and was willing to defend any spot on the floor and found success doing so. He’s such a versatile piece who has an impact on the outcome of games even when he isn’t scoring the ball.
Josiah Gillie (6’5 2022 F, West Allis Central)- Josiah is a man amongst boys against just about every team he comes up against at the high school level. He’s just about always the strongest player on the floor, and refuses to be outworked by everyone which is why he pulled in just about every rebound that came his way on Sunday. Offensively whenever he caught the ball on the block or in paint, it was almost an automatic two points as he could power throw and defender that stood in his way. In a tight game against Wauwatosa East, Josiah came up big down the stretch with some late finishes and rebounds.
Colin Hardrick Colin Hardrick 6'3" | CG Wauwatosa West | 2022 State WI (6’3 2022 G, Wauwatosa West)- Colin came off the bench against Pius XI, and took over the second he got on the floor. He was turning defense into offense by jumping passing lanes and flying up the floor for a pair of dunks on the game. In the half-court he was able to get into the rim just about any time he wanted to, and with his length and athleticism at the guard spot, the opposing defense just didn’t have an answer for him. His body control in the air is among the best in the state, as he gets great hangtime and can contort his body to finish in a variety of ways inside.
Jaquan Johnson Jaquan Johnson 5'10" | PG Pius XI | 2024 State WI (5’9 2024 PG, Pius XI)- Jaquan showed why he’s one of the top sophomores in the state, as he put up big scoring numbers against Tosa West. He showcased a dangerous floater game which could become a go-to move for him as it allows him to score over longer defenders after gaining just a bit of separation in the lane. I also like how he used his strong frame, as he was able to get into the paint and body taller guards to create the space to get up an attempt around the rim. Plays with great change of pace and has the range to pull up from three at any given moment.
