Including a Columbus team lead by four underclassmen, headlined by a dynamic freshman twin duo, and a Calvary Christian core gearing up for another state title run.
Calvary Christian
The Eagles roster is filled with athletic guards and forwards that will cause trouble for any time on their road to back-to-back 3A state titles. Gregg Glenn Gregg Glenn 6'7" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #161 Nation FL continues to be an explosive athlete when attacking the rim. Glenn showed a knack for positive decision making is one of the better distributors on the team, especially with Marvel Allen Marvel Allen 6'4" | SG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #46 Nation FL being out for game two. Speaking of Allen, the top 15 Junior put on a defensive clinic against Vertical Academy. As a physical 6’4 lead guard, he blanketed both backcourt positions, all while being a calm force in the halfcourt and a blur on the break.
The true standouts were 3-star big man Brenen Lorient Brenen Lorient 6'8" | PF Calvary Christian | 2022 State FL , Carl Cherenfant Carl Cherenfant 6'4" | CG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #68 Nation FL , and Randy Livingston Jr Randy Livingston Jr 6'2" | CG Newman | 2026 State LA .
Lorient surprised me with his ability to switch out to perimeter players and slide his feet with the quick guards he faced. That speed and agility take on a new form on the break where the 6-8 forward sprints the floor big above the rim finishes. He’s a solid rebounder, has good timing on with his shot blocking, and is a great option to have in your dunker spot.
Livingston Jr. did his thing beyond the arc, making 5 of his 8 threes over the weekend. He’s a good guard for the eagles to have on the court, with so many of their players looking to get in the paint. When teams keyed in on his shooting and closed out harder, he took a dribble or two to finish touch shots around the elbows.
Cherenfant played the jack of all trades role for Calvary. He set the offense, pushed the ball in transition, even made a perimeter shot. His showtime athleticism was very present with the number of dunks he got in the open court. Where the 2023 guard has a real chance to be special is the defensive end. His athleticism allows him to swarm opposing guards the minute they cross halfcourt giving Calvary one of the best defensive backcourts in the state.
Columbus
Florida’s 2025 class is shaping up to be a talented group with few being in the same tier as Cameron Boozer. The freshman is hovering somewhere between 6’8 and 6’9 with a skill set beyond his years. The taller Boozer twin hit four threes, split time as the primary decision maker in the half court, and finished through contact. We’re looking at a national prospect with all the tools to thrive in the modern basketball game. Columbus will play Riverview Sarasota in October as part of The Battle’s Miami showcase. A game that could have a big say in who will be considered the top freshman in the state in early rankings.
Cayden Boozer will enter his freshman season as a big point guard inching closer to 6’4 than previous listings. He controls the offense, setting the pace for the entire team. When plays break down, he’s able to get in the lane and kick to shooters or cutting forwards. Much like his brother, he has a nice stroke from distance. Boozer may not always show it because of his calm approach to the game, but he’s a good athlete and finisher at the rim. This was best showcased on a back cut set that opened up the lane for him two punch one home with two hands.
Malik Abdullahi Malik Abdullahi 6'6" | SF Columbus | 2024 State FL gives Columbus a young, athletic inside presence. He may still be a bit raw, but his energy and effort make up for that. If you don’t put a body on him, its head tap season for anyone under the goal. He’ll be a sophomore to monitor for the rest of his career, especially if he grows and continues to add pieces to his game.
Benny Fragela has a well-documented history of being a standout shooter. He moves well off the ball. The freshman is quick to come off a screen with his hands ready, feet set, and in the perfect position to let a shot fly. Fragela knocked down 4 timely threes in this game, including hitting threes on three straight possessions. Each came in the second half, keeping the game close for an overtime push.
