While I wasn’t able to be live in attendance at the Nets on Fire facility, I was able to catch the action via a live stream on BallerTV. Below are the first set of standout players from the Cream of the Crop Top 30 game.
Jordan Ross Jordan Ross 6'3" | PG Link Academy | 2023 #132 Nation MO , 2023, Pleasant Grove (UT) – We’ve written about Ross plenty in the last couple of weeks, as his performance at the All-West Camp two weekends ago was impressive enough to earn him some ink. It was good to get another look at the 6-foot-1 point guard and see that his all-around poise and basketball IQ run the same throughout different styles of events. Ross earned one of three nods for MVP honors of the Top 30 game because of his ability to manage the pace of the game and make great decisions with the basketball.
Zack Davidson Zack Davidson 6'8" | PF Mater Dei | 2023 State CA-S , 2023, Mater Dei (CA) – Davidson was the second of the three Top 30 game MVP’s and his impact carried throughout the event in its entirety. The 6-foot-7 forward is as versatile as they come at this stage with his ball skills combined with mobility and ability to hit perimeter shots with consistency. Davidson didn’t get a whole lot of varsity action last season, but should carve out a nice role for the Monarchs as a sophomore.
Darius Carr Darius Carr 6'3" | SG Fairfax | 2023 State #63 Nation CA-S , 2023 St. Bernard (CA) – To me, Carr is one of the more intriguing long-term prospects of in all of California’ 2023 class. What stands out most about the 6-foot-3 guard is the fact that game comes so easy to him and he never forces the issue. Carr is a knockdown shooter out of the short corners off the catch but can also attack bad closeouts and use his speed and athleticism to finish around the basket.
Jack Turner, 2024, Santa Margarita (CA) – The younger brother of 6-foot-7 wing Luke Turner Luke Turner 6'8" | SG Santa Margarita Catholic | 2021 State CA-S has a little bit more to his game than his older brother did at the same stage. Jack is a crafty ball handler who carves his way into the paint where he can finish with a soft floater or pull-up jumper. The 6-foot-3 freshman has great offensive feel for his grade and should be scoring guard to keep an eye on in the coming years.
Tyler Harris Tyler Harris 6'6" | SF Granada | 2023 State #210 Nation CA-N , 2023, Newark Memorial (CA) – Harris jumped off the screen due to his motor and athleticism which flashed numerous times on transition finishes and when cutting to the basket off the ball. The 6-foot-7 forward has some details to work out with his all-around skill set, especially when it comes to ball handling, but his energy and effort on the defensive end and in transition cannot be taught.
