Some players came into the Expo with something to prove, and the level of competition gave them the perfect opportunity to do it. With talented juniors and seniors across the floor, there weren't many possessions where you could hide. These prospects embraced that. Some answered questions I had about their games, others reinforced why they deserve more attention, and a few showed they belong in conversations with some of the better players in their class. By the end of the day, their point had been made.

Franck was better than I anticipated and quietly put together one of the stronger days in the gym. He's skilled and very balanced. He showcased a bit of everything and it really surprised me how he looked with the ball in his hands. He was not sped up, he attacked off the dribble and put pressure on the rim, he took advantage of mismatches and also got some work on the block. Franck had stretched where he dominated and looked like one of the best players on the floor and others he was just trying to pass and get others involved and while that doesn't typically stand out in a showcase, I appreciated the making the right plays. He can shoot it, has good size, finished down low and battled defensively as well. He wasn't necessarily the loudest name entering the day, but his play made him difficult to overlook. A very complete showing from him and a stock boosting day.

I've always been high on Tiatita-Lewis because I think he's very skilled, he competes on both ends at a high level and he can adapt to what the defense is giving him. I'm also aware that something changes in the club scene and showcase setting when he's free because that's when he's at his best and he has to find a way to unleash that during the year. If he does, FFC could be a dark horse team to follow. He's even better now and he looks like he's ready to take a leap. At the showcase, he was an alpha and like one of the top PGs there. He wants the ball, he's attacking the rim, he had some big guard baskets where he's trying to play bully ball down low and he's dunking now and showing off his athleticism and is looking to make plays. He also picked up 90-feet and willingly guarded the better players on the day which lets me know that it was a business trip for him. Curious to see how that looks with the team but he certainly had a day.

Lewis has put together multiple outings over the Summer and now that lets me know that he's much higher than we have him ranked and with our update coming up, he'll be a player who certainly rises. He's one of the better plug and play prospects in the state as I feel that he makes others around him better, he plays the right way and he can adapt to whatever the game calls for him. He's the right kind of aggressive as he can score. He hits 3s, gets to his mid range shot and can finish with either hand in traffic. We saw plays where he would call for the screen and hit the corner and either finish or kick it out to a guy, he controls pace, finds game and had a few off ball cuts for layups as well. He's a high IQ guard who has solid feel and he's not just forcing the action. Solid day for him where he proved that he's better than we thought. He benefitted from getting out to the event.

Cordova played with noticeable confidence at the Expo and had stretches that guards simply couldn't stop him. He's so explosive off the dribble, blew by guards and finished at the rim. He was getting two-feet into the paint and there wasn't many guards able to put much pressure onto the defense throughout the day. He had a couple of dribble drives, and pull-ups as well and uses his shiftiness and speed to get to where he wanted on the floor. He also started running the offense and getting teammates involved which is when the offense really opened up for him. He's best when he's providing a balance of scoring and facilitating as defenses have to adjust. This was a solid event for him.

Croon had everyone in the gym asking who he was. Thing about it is this is not the first Prep Hoops showcase that he looked like one of the best players there. He's skilled and competitive and let's face it, he's about a bucket. He scored the basketball, a ton on the event and might've had Top-3 points on the day. He controlled stretches of 3-on-3 as he couldn't miss from deep, then carried it into 5-on-5 with coast-to-coast finishes, he got inside of the defense and had some creative takes. At one point, Croon ripped off roughly four baskets in a row and essentially took the game over himself. There were multiple times where he turned a “oh no” play into a “that's tough.” He was young and not playing a ton last year, but right now, it might be time to give him a look and see what he can do. I think he's a gamer.

Kalenzi is a player who has the numbers and produces throughout the year, but got out to the showcased and looked as if he wanted to get in there and prove a point that he could belong and that he's better than what others believe. I feel like he did a great job of showing the type of offensive player that he is. He's a score-first guard who is going right at you. He was shooting, getting to the rim and finishing on blow by baskets, he created in iso and used the pick. He's a confident player whose assertive and we saw that no matter who was in front of him. He had a couple of and-1 baskets, he shot the 3-ball well and when he finds the balance of when to score and when to be a true PG that gets teammates involved and attack when needed he's going to be a even better player as he'll be very dangerous in the open court.
