August 17th and 18th Cedric Cobb Sr and I had the 9th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ.

120 players came to gain exposure in front of college coaches and scouts plus compete versus some top end players over the two days. I could probably list about 50 but

Here were 12 of the opening night standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='2412268' first='Maurice' last='Carter II'] Millennium

One of the top scorers at the camp and probably one of the top scoring lead guards on the West Coast. His pure speed with the ball is nearly impossible to stay in front of him. He can blow past his initial defender with the lay or flush it down but his skill stood out. His mid-range pull-up and three were clicking. An early MVP candidate.

[player_tooltip player_id='2386978' first='Jaydon' last='Hayes'] Willow Canyon

A strong framed combo guard has skill for days. His mid-range pull-up has high level elevation and will extend to the three. He can get into the lane, score with fade aways and throw it down impressively on the break. He is also stout on defense. An early MVP candidate.

[player_tooltip player_id='2133646' first='Myles' last='Godfrey'] Cactus Shadows

The top true point guard on the night was Godfrey. He guides the team like you should and finds teammates in stride with some needle threaders. He changes speeds about as well as you can and can score from mid to the three plus get downhill. An early MVP candidate.

[player_tooltip player_id='2746700' first='Carter' last='Glass'] SDO

If there was a best shooter award on opening night, it was definitely Glass. He swished in five triples and I am not sure if any even hit the rim. Plus it was five in a row with an ultimate quick trigger. He also got himself to the free throw after a ball fake.

[player_tooltip player_id='2386958' first='Isaiah' last='Gill'] Marana Mountain View

If there was award for on-ball defense on opening night, it was definitely Gill. His natural quickness and speed were on display. His quick feet and hands bothered his opponents every single game and ripped many pockets. He also made players around him better and scored it.

[player_tooltip player_id='1543533' first='Jordan' last='Green'] PHH Prep (Pictured)

The Fresno State commit is another early MVP candidate. He probably averaged a double-double while only playing half the games and did it in style. He crashed the glass and scored on tip dunks, lobs, put backs and nasty mid-range fall aways over the defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767903' first='Jacobi' last='Thompson II'] Mesa

Another top-notch performer was terrorizing the rim all night long. Multiple people told me he was too hard to handle on the side courts and then on the main court did it all. He hit threes, collected steals which led to dunks, slithered down the lane with his handle and defended all five positions. (He literally started on the 7'1 player [player_tooltip player_id='2829293' first='Noah' last='Bol'].) An early MVP candidate.

[player_tooltip player_id='2947346' first='Giovanni' last='Nielsen'] Deer Valley

A long guard/wing showed off his quickly improving skill with his three point jumper. He is a natural rebounder and a multiple positional defender with his length and movements in space. He sees the court well and fills a lot of holes for a team to win games.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552733' first='Donovan' last='Palmer'] Sunnyslope

Another early MVP candidate is Palmer. He has the size, skill, soft hands and athleticism to dominate in the paint with advanced post footwork but then is able to step outside and shoot it. He can shoot the three off the catch or dribble and then dunk it above the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='3665122' first='Obatayo' last='Adigun'] St. Mary's

An incoming freshman had a great start on the main court. He hit his first three 3's with confidence. Off the dribble or off the catch it did not matter. He handles it decently in traffic to create a little for himself and rebounds well in his area with his long arms and frame.

[player_tooltip player_id='2829293' first='Noah' last='Bol'] Sequoia Prep

The tallest player in attendance flexed his size and length. He moves really well from end to end and has soft hands, high end fluidity and quick bounce to throw it down. He rebounded well, ran the floor and got into position for his guards to give him the ball and he always finished it way above the crowd.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194803' first='Pierce' last='Harrington'] Saguaro

An instant scorer from the jump. He puts immense pressure on defenses with aggressive play. He has good size and a tighter handle to get into tighter spaces to the basket and will finish off tough contested shots. He will go baseline and finish off reverse layups, dunks and shoot it from mid.

August 17th and 18th Cedric Cobb Sr and I had the 9th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ.
