National Open Championship Weekend Standouts

The Prep Hoops National Open Championship brought a strong field to Pacers Athletic Center this weekend. The event had plenty of competitive games, and players made their presence felt with scoring, toughness, defensive energy, and showed long-term upside. These players stood out because they could score at a high level. Others impacted the game with defense, rebounding, rim protection, or showed versatility.    Travis Maxwell was hooping for Tennessee United.   Maxwell is a wing who can really shoot the ball. He showed confidence from the perimeter and gave his team a scoring threat that defenses had to respect. What made him stand out even more was that he was not just hunting shots. He competed on both ends and was willing to make tough winning plays.   One of the biggest things that stood out was his willingness to take charges. That says a lot about his toughness and competitive mindset. Maxwell played with energy, gave Tennessee United a spark, and helped lead his team in a strong push against a talented Minnesota Fury Heat group.     Graham Seraphine had one of the louder scoring performances of the weekend.   The 6-foot combo guard poured in 38 points against Legacy Ice, and he did it with an impressive scoring package. Graham is an electric guard with skill, feel, and confidence for the game. He can score at all three levels, which makes him difficult to keep in front.   He showed the ability to create his own shot, attack the defense, and get into rhythm quickly. His feel for the game also stood out. He did not look rushed. He played with control and gave Handles x Buckets a guard who could carry the offense when needed. Blakely is a quick and explosive point guard who plays with an aggressive mindset. He looked to get to the rim and used change of speed well to get by defenders. That ability to shift gears helped him create separation and put pressure on the defense.   He is a score-first point guard, but his defense also changed the game. Blakely picked up full court, bothered ball handlers, and helped shift the energy with his ball pressure. His ability to be a ball hawk gave Fire Basketball a different level of intensity.     Sam James gave Fire Basketball and Bishop Chatard High School a true interior presence.   James is a big true 5 man with soft touch around the rim. He finished consistently over his left shoulder and gave his team a reliable option inside. His strength and size helped him establish position, and he showed good patience when finishing around the basket.   Defensively, James impacted the game with strong wall-ups at the rim. He made drivers finish over his size and did a good job staying vertical. That type of rim presence is valuable because it allows guards to pressure the ball knowing there is help behind them.     [player_tooltip player_id='3594696' first='Nolan' last='Ward'] was one of the more intriguing upside pieces for Fire Basketball.   Ward is a lefty forward with good size and athletic ability. He ran the floor hard on every possession and showed value as a rim runner. His activity helped create easy scoring chances in transition and put pressure on opposing bigs to sprint back.   He also showed the ability to step out and knock down a jumper. That part of his game gives him more long-term upside. Ward has the size to rebound and protect the rim, but he is also athletic enough to defend on the perimeter. That versatility makes him a player to keep tracking.     Jenovic Kadindula brought length, activity, and a high motor for Minnesota Heat PBB.   Kadindula is a long, utility forward who found ways to impact the game in different areas. He finished well in traffic and showed toughness around the basket. He also played with a high motor as a rebounder and shot blocker.   One play really showed his ability. Kadindula picked up the ball defensively near half court, came away with the steal, and went coast to coast for the finish. That type of play shows his length, mobility, and ability to turn defense into offense.     Owen Stangl gave Minnesota Heat PBB a skilled forward who can stretch the floor.   Stangl is a pick-and-pop 4 with the ability to shoot from three. He looked comfortable spacing the floor and gave his team a frontcourt player who could pull defenders away from the rim. That skill is valuable because it creates spacing and lanes for guards.   He also showed the ability to guard multiple positions. Stangl's combination of size, shooting, and defensive versatility made him a strong piece for Minnesota Heat PBB.     Soren Lilly stood out as a big wing with good length.   Lilly showed traits of a 3-and-D prospect. He has the size to defend on the wing and the length to bother shots and get into the passing lanes. Offensively, his ability to space the floor gives him value within the team offense.   Players with Lilly's frame and role are always worth watching because they can fit next to different lineups. His length, shooting potential, and defensive tools made him another Minnesota Heat PBB player who stood out.    The National Open Championship weekend standouts had a good mix of scoring guards, tough wings, skilled forwards, and true interior players.   Each player stood out in his own way, but they all showed traits that translate: toughness, production, feel, versatility, and the ability to impact winning.
