<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With July coming to an end, we'll see the recruiting news pick up quite a bit as those in the rising senior class begin to focus on a core group of schools, schedule official visits and look forward to the eventual commitment process. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In this month's installment of the recruiting notebook, we have two prospects in the 2027 class who announced their lists of schools, others who are still receiving offers and some news within the DMV transfer portal that is noteworthy.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Two top five 2027 prospects cut their lists</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2139297' first='J'Lon' last='Lyons'] announce the cutting of his college list yesterday and will focus on the following eight schools: <em>Butler, Georgetown, Maryland, Syracuse, Tennessee, VCU, Virginia</em> and <em>Washington</em>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 6'3" lead guard has set up official visits with Syracuse (Sept. 11-13), Maryland (Sept. 18-20) and VCU (Sept. 24-26). Loyns has also set an official visit with Tennessee, but hasn't publicly released those dates.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The expectation is to take visits to possibly each program included in his top eight and then sit down with his family and come to a decision. In terms of a timeline, a commitment could take place in October at some point, but if not, Lyons wants to have his decision made prior to the beginning of his senior season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2353547' first='Jymin' last='Veney'] has trimmed his list to seven programs, he announced earlier this week. Delaware, George Mason, George Washington, Hofstra, Old Dominion, St. Bonaventure and St. Joseph's.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It's expected for Veney to follow a similar path to Lyons in the sense of taking visits and then coming to a decision sometime shortly after. As of now, he has official visits set for Delaware (Sept. 7) and ODU (Sept. 26), he tells me. The 6'3" combo guard wrapped up his EYBL season with [program_tooltip program_id='2078457' first='Team' last='Durant'] averaging 13.8PPG, 3.5RPG, 2.6SPG and 2.5APG.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Offers</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2027 St. Frances/[program_tooltip program_id='2076999' first='Team' last='Melo'] guard [player_tooltip player_id='2454534' first='Terence' last='Jones III'] has received offers from Dayton and Pepperdine. Jones already holds offers from the likes of Georgetown, Mississippi State and Towson among others. He concluded his EYBL season averaging 16.6PPG and 4.5APG.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2027 Archbishop Carroll/Washington Warriors guard [player_tooltip player_id='2353541' first='Bam' last='Bolding'] has received offers from Alcorn St., UNC Pembroke and Winston Salem State. Expect the activity to maintain momentum for Bolding at the D2+/LM level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2027 Mount St. Joseph/New World F [player_tooltip player_id='2353521' first='Kenneth' last='Anthony II'] received an offer from Air Force. Anthony strung together a strong showing in the month of July for New World showcasing his high motor, dependable finishing around the rim and effectiveness guarding some of the best bigs in the country on the 3SSB Circuit.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Transfers</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The St. James Academy (VA) is loading up with DMV talent in their second season of existence. Head coach Book Richardson has reeled in the 2027 trio of [player_tooltip player_id='2353558' first='Isaiah' last='Carpenter'], Kye Gray and Christian Proctor. Carpenter starred for Clinton Grace last season and caught traction within the recruiting front thanks to his positional versatility. Gray is a pit bull of a point guard who has proven himself against high-level talent since his freshman season, but made waves in June with a strong Scholastic Live Period for Bethel Academy. Proctor returns to the DMV after spending his first two seasons at DeMatha before transferring to LuHi for his junior season. Carpenter will be transferred to the Prep Hoops Virginia site after making a jump in our recent update to No. 12 overall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2316556' first='Camontae' last='Griffin Jr.'] makes his way back to St. Frances Academy after spending his junior season at Gillion Academy (VA). The 5'10" lead guard bolsters a strong backcourt bringing further experience and ability to dictate tempo. The move means that [player_tooltip player_id='2454534' first='Terence' last='Jones III'] won't be expected to have the ball in his hands at all times and allows the Panthers to operate in a similar fashion as they did when Jones was with 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2878470' first='Carter' last='Fisk'] (Villanova) last season. Expect 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2954433' first='Chance' last='McCoy'] to take a step in the right direction with an increased role as well to provide a further downhill threat on the ball and valuable defensive tools.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
