The 21st annual IHSAA/IBCA Charlie Hughes Memorial Showcase tipped off on Friday. There were 210 teams competing across over 350 games between Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. and Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground coverage the entire way from the opening tip until the final buzzer. One of the best parts about this annual event is getting a first look at the best incoming freshmen. Here are some of the Class of 2030 prospects who shined at the Charlie Hughes Showcase.

Following in his cousin Keion's footsteps at North Side High School, Jase should factor into the equation at the varsity level right away. Brooks is a skilled playmaker with impressive positional size and athleticism for a rising freshman. He was excellent throughout the weekend at the Charlie Hughes Showcase averaging 18 points per game for the Legends. Expect for Brooks to be one of the best prospects in the Fort Wayne area for years to come.

The combination of fluid athleticism, smooth ball handling, and positional size makes Faniel a very impressive young prospect. He has a long, lean 6'5" frame with legitimate skills as a primary ball handler and playmaker. Faniel was excellent off of the bounce creating for himself and others at the Charlie Hughes Showcase. The incoming freshman wing at Merillville High School scored 20 points in a matchup with Evansville Harrison and finished the event averaging 13 points and 4 assists per game.

Jefferson is one of those young prospects that all you have to do is look at them to know he is one of the top guys in the class. He has a long, lean 6'5" frame with plenty of room still to grow. The incoming freshman has been in North Central's varsity rotation all summer long and should bring some two-way versatility to the floor. There are other guys with more polished skill sets at this point, but Jefferson has the athletic and physical tools to match just about anyone in Indiana's Class of 2030.

We first came across the incoming freshman guard at the Chesterton Summer League where he stood out with his quickness and playmaking ability. Those same traits were on display with South Bend Riley at the Charlie Hughes Showcase. Johnson is lightning quick end-to-end, operates well off of a ballscreen, and is a very disruptive on-ball defender. He is a two-way difference-maker in the Riley backcourt.

From a production standpoint there was no better Class of 2030 prospect at the Charlie Hughes Showcase than Patterson. The 6'4" wing is absolutely one of the top prospects in his class and proved it while leading Crispus Attucks High School to an undefeated 4-0 weekend. Patterson led the Tigers averaging 27.0 points per game. His positional size and strength on the perimeter made it very hard for opposing defenders to contain him off of the dribble. He is a relentless downhill driver and did a great job of finishing around the basket.

If we were to rank the Class of 2030 prospects in the state of Indiana right now the clear #1 would be [player_tooltip player_id='2886513' first='Levin' last='Robinson']. The 6'7" forward is incredibly advanced as a rebounder and all-around defender for his age. He is truly elite on the boards and does a great job of going to get the ball at its apex. Offensively he is comfortable with the ball in his hands and can punish smaller defenders off of the dribble. Robinson has had several highlight-reel dunks over the course of the summer as well. He projects as one of the next great players to come through the program at Lawrence North High School.

The Charlie Hughes Showcase offered us our first look at this Marion High School point guard. Shively's ball handling and court vision quickly caught our attention. He is very quick with the ball in his hands, plays with his head up at all times, and showed the ability to find open teammates consistently. Shively has the ability to generate paint touches consistently proved willing and able to make the right reads from a live dribble. He is a high-upside point guard prospect that should make a splash at the varsity level right away.

The wait for Westfield fans is over. Another Smith is ready to take the reigns as the Shamrocks starting point guard. [player_tooltip player_id='3605201' first='Maddox' last='Smith'], the younger brother of former Indiana Mr. Basketball and Purdue legend Braden Smith, has made an instant impact already this summer. On Sunday at the Charlie Hughes Showcase he had his best individual performance yet scoring 26 points against defending Class 3A State Champion Cathedral. Smith can really shoot it from three-point range, but has the ball handling and playmaking ability that you would expect in a lead guard as well.
