Rose City Showcase – Top Performers (II)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Rose City Showcase took place this past weekend as nine of the state's best teams came to the Cascade Campus of Portland Community College to battle it out for supremacy. We had the opportunity to drop by and catch a few games in the Gentlemen High School Varsity Elite division and here are some more of the top performers that we saw (note: we did not get a chance to see Central Catholic, Cleveland, or Gresham).</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["2910099"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6a2af430d8c22"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Hopkins-McGlothen has played much of the spring with the ball in his hands with [program_tooltip program_id='3566315' first='PortlandBoyz' last='Elite'] but with Benson he may be more off the ball, but is just as effective. The rising sophomore is simply a bucket however he's playing, either knocking down jumpers off the catch-and-shoot (both mid-range and from deep) or using the dribble and creating for finshes around the basket often through contact. That was the case in Parkrose's win over Grant in the opening game for both teams at the Rose City Showcase as the rising sophomore couldn't be contained, especially once he got around the hoop. Great skill with his shooting and passing (5 assists) from the Benson rising junior and his physicality down low couldn't be matched by the opposing team. His shot looked solid from the mid-range against Grant but he was even more effective getting to the basket, especially in transition and through contact. Long and lanky, the rising junior was particularly effective getting downhill on the break and finshed off some acrobatic layups around the hoop.
