A lot of players had solid seasons, and we made it a point to get them on our radar. A few we still have to see more from but they still made their marks. That's what makes this group interesting. They've already shown they can play at a high level in 5A, but it feels like there's another gear there. Some are stepping into bigger roles, some are taking over more responsibility, and others are simply in position to put their name in conversations they weren't part of a year ago. If things break right, this could be the season where these guards stop being good players in their league and start becoming names people across the state know.

Rooks is a 6-foot guard out of Grand Junction who had himself a junior season that got him on a bit more radars, but he remains an unknown. Rooks put up 13.7 points a game, as opposing teams looked at ways to slow him down to pick up wins. He still had some explosive moments and showed that, despite being an undersized guard, he also could affect the game in other ways. Rooks put up 7 boards a game as well as he grabbed boards and went for coast-to-coast finishes. He also found the open man and read what defenses were giving him, having some big assist games to go along with it. The underrated part of his game is his ability to lock down defenders, get steals, and turn that into scoring opportunities the other way. He's a player who we want to see more of, but after that last season, he's a player who should be discussed a bit more. I am sure that he has some big games.

Martinez is a player who we have seen in multiple setting and while he does have his standout moments, he's still a bit under the radar. I do feel as if this will be the year that it all pops for him as he checks off plenty of boxes. He scores with ease, the game slows down for him, and he has a great basketball IQ. Martinez sees plays before they happen, he gets to his spots, and is a three-level scorer. As the season progressed, he got even better and was truly one of the best scorers in the conference during league play. He also stepped up defensively and was the team's defensive stopper. We saw him this summer, and he's still breaking down defenses, getting to the rim, and hitting mid-range shots. Martinez is a player who should turn some heads this year, and we're sure we'll see him a few times before the season begins.

Ellison made the switch over to Regis Groff, and once he started to play, it gave them another on-ball weapon that they could use. They have elite guard play at Regis Groff, and if he finds his groove, I feel as if they can be the favorites in 5A this year. He's dangerous with the ball in his hands, counters and breaks defenders down in is,o and finishes well around the basket. He's a creative offensive player who also gets some himself going defensively. He feeds off of his teammates, attacks the rim, and should be a game-changer for Regis Groff this year. With pretty much only the end of his junior season on varsity, he needs to get off to a hot start as he's one of 5A's best secret weapons

Titus is one of the top PG sin 5A that still somehow seems to be a bit under the radar. With a solid season, he could be a 1,000-point scorer, he could finish with 500 career assists, and have 300 steals to go along with it. This could be a big senior season for him. Titus is one of the few true PG's in the state who passes teammates into open spots. He dissects the defense with his passes and gets into the sweet spots of zones and feeds the hot man. Titus handles pressure well, takes care of the ball, and he outplays almost every team's best guard in every matchup. He helped lead Standley Lake to a 15-9 overall record and won their conference. He filled up the statsheet as a junior, averaging 11 points, 6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.8 steals to go along with it. That's one of the most balanced lines of any player in the state, and maybe this is the year that it all catches up. Get eyes on this under-the-radar standout.

Vigil is a player who I feel had a bit of a glow up last Summer/Fall when he got out to events for exposure and showed he not only could fit in, but stand out. He dominated in our showcase and had high expectations heading into the season. Vigil had an up-and-down season, but later in the season, he found a groove and did not look bad. Pueblo South went on a 6-game winning streak to close out league play, won their conference, and leaned on him to be the lead guard and leader on the floor. He put up 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2.5 assists a game, and had 2.5 steals to go along with it. He has solid stature, powers through smaller guy,s and uses his size against smaller guards. While he's a capable shooter, he made it a point to get to the rim and attack players. He plays above his size, and I think that he will have a big season where he gets back on more radars. We hope to see him at the showcase yet again and for him to ride that momentum into the Fall.
