About Mike

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a point guard/shooting guard who likes playing both positions. As a PG, I focus on making the right reads to get my teammates open. I have found that the best way to do this is by attacking the hoop aggressively and making the defense make decisions. As a SG, I look to get into open spaces to take intelligent shots from mid-range and from three.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am an aggressive defender, who works hard, applies constant pressure and makes the offense work. On offense I have a “score first mentality” which then opens up scoring opportunities for my teammates. As a Leader on both ends I work hard and am vocal with setting my teammates up for success and placing them in the best position to win! I also look to pick them up and uplift them when needed.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved with Pro Skills Basketball Denver.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have improved as a team leader and using my voice to communicate with my teammates. I also participated in a youth summer basketball camp as a coach, teaching younger kids the fundamentals.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I find the most challenging thing about the game is not letting my emotions get the better of me. I am learning to play with emotion and passion, but not emotionally and doing this by focusing on what I can control and trusting God with the rest.

What type of college are you looking for?

The goal is to play for a D1 program.

Martinez is coming off a sensational season and has carried that momentum into the summer, already making noise while playing abroad with a huge 23 point, 13 assist performance. His offensive game is advanced because he can score at all three levels while also creating easy opportunities for teammates. Martinez is a confident shooter with deep range, but what separates him is his shot making ability under pressure and in tough spots. He handles the ball with poise, changes pace well and keeps defenders off balance off the dribble. His vision and basketball IQ stand out every time he steps on the floor, reading defenses quickly and making the right play. Martinez is trending toward a breakout summer
