About Mike
Expert Analysis
Bobby Lopez | Prep Hoops Scout
Martinez is coming off a sensational season and has carried that momentum into the summer, already making noise while playing abroad with a huge 23 point, 13 assist performance. His offensive game is advanced because he can score at all three levels while also creating easy opportunities for teammates. Martinez is a confident shooter with deep range, but what separates him is his shot making ability under pressure and in tough spots. He handles the ball with poise, changes pace well and keeps defenders off balance off the dribble. His vision and basketball IQ stand out every time he steps on the floor, reading defenses quickly and making the right play. Martinez is trending toward a breakout summer

jumped on the scene and emerged as a bright spot for Ponderosa. Martinez has a well-rounded game with his ability to score at all three levels. He’s a confident player and got into a groove to close out the season, where he looked like one of the promising players in the class. Martinez put up 11.8 points and 2.7 rebounds a game. He also had 2.3 assists and had two steals a game to go along with it. He was the best two-way option on the team, showing signs of being a go-to guy and playmaker for the team. His two-way impact and ability to contribute on any given night despite being the focal point for opposing teams puts him in a great spot to make the jump from the watch list to the rankings this go round, and we’re excited to see what else there is to his game.

Martinez came out to play with a smart, versatile offensive showing. His shot had confidence and efficiency while he also spaced the floor and forced defenses to adjust. He timed his cuts perfectly, and consistently slipped into open spots to make himself an option. That blend of shooting touch, movement without the ball, and quickness off the bounce made him a constant offensive threat. It was really impressive to see him impact the game even when the ball wasn’t in his hands. If he continues to build on that foundation, Martinez projects as that fficient, reliable guard coaches love to have on the floor
