ORANGE, Calif. — The annual Compton Magic Memorial Day event featured a strong contingent of local programs and prospects from the classes of 2026 through 2029. We took in two days worth of action over the holiday weekend at Orange Lutheran high school and below are the standout guard performers from the 17u level.

[player_tooltip player_id='2613096' first='Baron' last='Sabir'] | 2027 | Compton Magic

The 6-foot-4 off-guard is a high energy and high motor two-way player who was best as a three-point shooter off the catch and on the move in this event. Sabir has a quick trigger and deep range on his catch-and-shoot three point shot, can attack the rim and score on straight-line drives and pressures the ball and disrupts ball handlers on the defensive end of the floor.

DJ Humphries | 2026 | Gamepoint

Humphries has raised his stock significantly this spring and is planning to reclassify to the 2027 class with his likely post-grad destination being AIA Prep in Ohio. The 5-foot-11 point guard is a smooth-paced creator for himself and teammates in ball screen action and uses his steady decision-making to get into his pull-up jumper or find an open teammate.

[player_tooltip player_id='2435386' first='Hunter' last='Caplan'] | 2027 | California Gold

Caplan scored the ball at a high level over the weekend and did so from all three levels of the floor. The 6-foot-3 combo guard is one of the region's best three-point shooters and while he had that dialed in he was also using the bounce to get into a balanced mid-range jumper and into the lane and to the rim for savvy finishes at the cup. Caplan's continued improvements to his point guard playmaking feel make him an intriguing prospect at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='2439046' first='Jerry' last='Stokes'] | 2027 | San Diego All-Stars

Stokes can often be a one-man wrecking crew with his ability to fill up the scoring column in bunches and he did just that in an upset win over Dream Vision on the opening night of the event. The 5-foot-10 point guard makes up for his lack of positional size with quickness, shiftiness and tough shot-making abilities off the bounce. Stokes has a lethal mid-range jumper and the ability to knock down deep three-point shots off the bounce.

[player_tooltip player_id='2746607' first='Josh' last='Lowery'] | 2028 | Compton Magic

Lowery is a dynamic transition creator and scorer who blends a physical downhill attacking style with strength, physicality and elusive athleticism to score at the rim or draw the attention of multiple defenders and make a play for a teammate. The 6-foot-4 sophomore can play on or off the ball in half-court offense and is highly effective as a pull-up jump shooter off the bounce.

[player_tooltip player_id='2137370' first='Nick' last='Andreotti'] | 2027 | Jaylen Wells Elite

Andreotti is a tough-minded and sure-handed true point guard who impressed with his ability to make the right play at the right time in a variety of situations. The 6-foot-2 Northern California-based junior has a simple but tight handle on the ball, patiently sets up and comes off of ball screens and quickly diagnoses the defense to find the advantage. Andreotti is a willing passer and playmaker for others but does have the offensive punch to score on drives and strong finishes.

[player_tooltip player_id='2815177' first='Paxx' last='Bell'] | 2027 | California Gold

Bell recently joined forces with the California Gold program and the early returns make it seem like a good match. The 6-foot-3 junior out of Mira Costa high school is a bit of a sleeper in Southern California but his strong frame and three-level scoring ability have put him on the radar over the last few weeks. Bell is a consistent three-point shooter off the catch who can also use his physicality to play bully-ball for at-rim finishes.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436261' first='Sloane' last='Harris'] | 2027 | Compton Magic

Compton Magic was missing a couple of key pieces over the weekend which gave a guy like Harris a chance to step up and shine. The 6-foot-3 guard plays with a chip on his shoulder and a competitive edge that leads to him making plays on both ends of the floor. Offensively, Harris is a physical and explosive downhill finisher in transition. Defensively, he shines with his ability to pressure the ball and take opponents out of the their rhythm.

[player_tooltip player_id='2534808' first='Van' last='Moczydlowsky'] | 2028 | California Gold

Moczydlowsky is quickly shooting up the recruiting boards in SoCal's 2028 class. The 6-foot-3 sophomore started the spring playing 16u for California Gold but was quickly promoted after showing a smooth perimeter scoring package complete with catch-and-shoot threes and pull-up jumpers. Moczydlowsky has also shown improvements to his vertical athleticism and paint finishing ability.
