Lowery is a lengthy and shifty sniper from beyond the arc that can score in volume, excels in the open court, and is emerging as a player that needs to be in the national conversation for the sophomore class. The 6-foot-5 combo guard moves fluidly off the ball to get to his shot spots, has a smooth release with accuracy on the 3-ball with range, uses the pump-fake, crossover, hesitation, and behind cross to get by his initial defender, gets good lift on the mid-range jumper, has nice touch on the floater, and good feel on finishes around the basket, using the Euro-step or up-and-under lay-up to evade height at the basket. Lowery has good court vision to find open teammates off the drive and kick pass, as defenses over pursue on the perimeter, is solid on the glass with the handle to push the pace of play or get the ball up the court, and continues to gain confidence as one of the premier shooters on the West. Lowery led the Trailblazers in scoring with 19 points, to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and connected on 5 threes to show off the efficiency with the 3-ball.

I was a big fan of Lowery’s passing ability on Friday, showing an extremely high feel for the game. Making the right read and passing the ball on time and on target can do wonders in a setting where players are just getting to know each other. Lowery also knocks down shots on the perimeter and overall displays an advanced understanding of the game for his age. Playing up for the Compton Magic this summer certainly prepared Lowery to make an impact at an event like this.

One of the more polished scorers in the 2028 class, Lowery plays like a prospect who grew up competing against and watching his two older brothers play high level basketball. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard/wing has a mature and balanced scoring package complete with perimeter shot-making off the catch and off the bounce – from three and mid-range – and is a savvy driver and finisher when he gets a paint touch.

Another 2028 prospect who played up on the Adidas circuit, Lowery was an impact piece for Compton Magic’s 16 U group this summer. Lowery played up despite being young for his grade and produced at a high level as a prolific shooter with a dynamic handle that he could change paces with on the ball. Lowery looks like one of the top scoring wing guards on the west coast and it’s no surprise programs like Nc State and Stanford were early offers.

Lowery played with the Compton Magic 16s for all the 3SSB stops, but with some key players not available at the Invitational, Lowery was moved up to play with the CM 17s and he took advantage of the opportunity, with games of 24 points and 26 points and an average of 18 per game for the 4-day event. The 6-foot-5 combo guard was lights out from beyond the arc, with the moves and handle to create his own shot off the dribble, as well as the off ball movement to get open looks off the catch. Lowery is active on the boards with the handle to push the ball up the court, the court vision and size to make good reads in the half-court setting or transition, and showed great touch on the floater down the lane or off the baseline drive. Lowery makes good use of the double crossover, the between the leg cross into the step-back, and the in-and-out move to get by his initial defender with good lift and accuracy on the mid-range jumper. Lowery displayed the ability to score from 3-levels against the top competition at the Invitational and was the only rising sophomore that made an impact in the 17u division.

The long shooting guard put up nearly 16pts a game with his high school team. He plays at a good pace, with quality handles and moves to create his shot opportunities, within the flow. He’s got a good first step attacking from the perimeter, and coming across the lane for paint, and mid-range jumpers. He’ll use a spin move, or weave his way to the hoop challenging defenders to finish around the rim. He makes his free throws. He uses his length defending on the perimeter, and rebounding.
