Sati-Grier is the top 2028 point guard prospect in California and he continued to double-down on that with an elite display of PG play in Vegas. The 6-foot rising junior is a dynamic playmaker and scorer in transition with his blend of speed, control, vision and ability to process the game multiple steps ahead of the opponent. Sati-Grier posted averages of 15.8 points, 8.2 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

The best performance I saw all day, Sati-Grier was unbelievable to watch on Tuesday evening. Finishing with 39 points on 14/21 from the field with six steals and five rebounds, Sati-Grier was dominant in all areas of the game. Defensively, Sati-Grier started the game with some steals thanks to intense defensive pressure and quick hands. His anticipation also allowed him to jump a passing lane for a steal around half-court in the fourth quarter of the tight game. With blazing end to end speed, Sati-Grier was able to get into the paint and around his first defender basically whenever he wanted. It’s rare to say a sub 6-foot point guard was ‘relentless’ but that’s what a NBA scout said about his game to me afterwards and I had to agree, Sati-Grier’s play on both ends was flat out relentless and he refused to lose for his team.

We saw Sati-Grier at Nike Elite 100 and he was one of the better guards we saw from the 2028 group.  In their win over Alabama Fusion on Tuesday he was flat out phenomenal!  He dropped 39 points (14-21 FG) (9-11 FT), 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 steals.  The first thing that stands out is he is just a blur with the ball.  Elite speed, shake, and creativity with the rock in his hands.  Only 6’0”, but he had no problem finishing against an elite rim protector and big Fusion frontline with his touch, acrobatic finishes, and body control.  Also consistently drew contact going to the line.  Elite scorer who can shoot it from three hitting one off a DHO and another step back.  Has playmaking instincts as well making nice decisions on the fly while also racking up steals on the defensive end which he turned into points on the other end.

Sati-Grier is one of the premier passers and playmaking guards in the state and that, combined with his defensive instincts and speed with the ball in his hands, led us to moving him to No. 4 in the region after previously being at No. 22. The 6-foot point guard came off the bench for Sierra Canyon last season and was a crucial change-of-pace guard in that sixth-man role. Sati-Grier’s unselfishness and pass-first mentality stand out as his primary offensive tools but he’s also a crafty finisher around the rim who can knock down mid-range pull-up jumpers.

JJ Sati-Grier is a pest on the defensive end. He keeps his eyes focused on the ball, and will poke it away as his matchup surveys the court. He can also take it the rest of the way after a steal for an easy 2. On offense, he gets to his floater often. While also using hesitation moves to slip all the way to the cup. His two way play makes him quite valuable. I’ll be great to see how his development continues this summer as he gets ready for his junior season.

Sati-Grier is a skilled and silky smooth player that keeps relentless pressure on the defense, is a high-level playmaker with the ball in his hands, and controls the pace of play with poise and confidence running the show for the highly touted Trailblazers roster. The 6-foot-2 lead guard has dynamic handles, keeps the dribble alive to survey the floor and probe the defense for openings, plays with good pace and change of speed to keep his defender off balance, uses the between cross, behind cross, and low crossover to get his defender on his hip, has an elite burst of speed off the bounce to get paint touches, and the footwork and court vision to make quality reads to open teammates once the defense collapses. Sati-Grier has touch on the floater down the lane, uses the reverse or up-and-under lay-ups to evade length at the basket, and moves well off the ball to get open looks off the catch, with accuracy on the 3-ball. The court vision, body control, and decision making with the ball were all impressive to watch, and, despite the depth of talent on the Sierra Canyon roster, when Sati-Grier is at the helm the rest of the team seemed to fall into their rolls much easier, as he is a willing passer at the point. 

Sati-Grier has some dynamic scoring and playmaking ability in his arsenal and most of that starts with his ability to break down defenders with a tight and creative handle in isolation. The 6-foot point guard uses his shiftiness off the bounce to create space from defenders and get into a step-back jumper but he can also slice his way to the painted area and finish with savvy around the basket. Sati-Grier is an instinctual and disruptive defender, especially when up and pressuring in full court situations.
