Las Vegas - Last week/weekend, Nike EYBL held its 4th Session at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which featured 20 hardwood courts and was the final stop before the illustrious Peach Jam this week in South Carolina. The event started on Wednesday, July 7th and ended Sunday, July 12th. I was in attendance from the 7th through the 9th to catch 3 days of action, and did my best to cover the 17u, 16u, and 15u divisions, so I may have not caught every player that stood out over the event. This article takes a look at 8 standout lead and combo guards from the 2028 class (rising juniors). This will be followed by a look at standout players by position per class. In this article you will find the following information: players name, height, position, school, club team, stats from the event, and a breakdown of their skill sets. The players are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked order, and we begin with [player_tooltip player_id='2559220' first='Kyle' last='Amadi'].

[player_tooltip player_id='2559220' first='Kyle' last='Amadi'] (6'5 | CG) - [player_tooltip player_id='2854586' first='Austin' last=''] Prep/Drive Nation

Amadi is a lengthy and athletic combo guard that can light it up from beyond the arc, scores in volume, and plays with a great motor that impacts both ends of the court. Amadi has a stellar showing in a tough loss to [program_tooltip program_id='2371255' first='AB' last='Elite'] on Day 3 of Session 4, where he would finish with 24 points, connecting on 4 threes, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, showcasing his ability to make plays for himself and for his teammates. Amadi has solid handles, keeps the dribble alive to probe the defense for openings to attack, has the moves to shake his defender, using the crossover, between-cross, hesitation, step-back, and behind-cross to create space from his defender, is accurate with the 3-ball off the bounce with range from deep, and explosive burst off the dribble to attack the lane, with the bounce to take flight with regularity down the lane or from the baseline, as well as finish at the basket with the reverse, up-and-under, and euro-step lay-ups to evade shot blockers in the paint. Amadi has a long wingspan, active hands, and the timing to block/alter shots in the paint, the agility to close out on jump shooters, the lateral foot-speed to stay in front of perimeter players, and looks to deflect passes or jump passing lanes to get out and run the floor. A lot to like about the sharp shooting rising junior and a player that should be known more nationally.

Shane Goines (6'4 | CG) - Mount Paran Christian/Jet Academy

Goines is a skilled and athletic combo guard that impacts the scoreboard off the dribble or the catch, fluid movement up the court while changing directions with the ball in his hand to keep his defender guessing, and can light it up from beyond the arc, putting up points quickly. Goines had a great showing against a talented Team CP3 during Session 4, where he would finish with 19 points, while connecting on 3 threes to showcase his efficiency from deep. Goines has dynamic handles, keeps the ball on a string to survey the court, has the moves to create space from his defender, using the hesitation, behind-cross, spin-move, step-back, crossover, and toss-cross to get open looks off the dribble, is accurate with the 3-ball off the bounce with range from deep, weaves through traffic to find openings around the basket with touch on shots at the cup, using the floater, as well as the up-and-under and reverse lay-ups to score among height. Goines moves fluidly off the ball, gets to his shoot spots, and gets good lift on the 3-ball off the catch with body control on contact in the air, has active hands, timing, and instincts to jump passing lanes, deflect entry passes, or poke the ball out to get the steal and score in transition, and is a good positional rebounder to push the pace of play.

Jakyi Miles (6'5 | CG) - AZ Compass Prep/AZ Unity 17s

Miles is a skilled and athletic lead guard that can score from 3-levels, has one of the smoothest jumpers in high school hoops, and causes havoc on the defensive end to turn defense to offense. Miles led the charge for AZ Unity at Session 4 of the EYBL stop and displayed his ability to make plays for others and lock-up on the defensive end, as well as making tough perimeter shots, which has been the strength of his game up to this point. Miles has elite handles, keeps the ball on a string to probe the defense for openings to attack, keeps a low center of gravity when preparing to get down hill, has a plethora of moves to get his defender off balance, using the crossover, between-cross, hesitation, toss-cross, and in-and-out to create space from his defender, gets great lift on the jumper, with accuracy and body control in the air from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the dribble, and is a creative scorer around the basket, with the euro-step and up-and-under lay-ups to get shots up over height in the paint. Miles moves fluidly off the ball, gets to his shot spots, squares his shoulders, and is efficient with the 3-ball off the catch, has the court vision and decision making to find open teammates off the drive and kick pass, to the diver out of the pick and roll action, or cross court to open shooters when the defense over-rotates. He has active hands, good timing, the bounce, and instincts to get weak-side or pin-blocks at the basket, jump passing lanes, or poke the ball out to create scoring opportunities in transition.

Caden Miller (6'1 | CG) - Gilbert Sena Charter/Legynds

Miller is a crafty and skilled guard that can light it up from beyond the arc, shifty moves to keep the defense guessing, and opens up the floor for teammates to attack the basket. Miller had a strong showing in a loss to NW Rotary Rebels as Day 3 came to a close, finishing with 12 points and 6 rebounds, connecting on a pair of threes in the process. Miller has solid handles, shifty moves to create off the bounce, using the hesitation, the crossover, and between-cross to get his defender off balance, is efficient with the jumper from the mid-range to the 3-point line, and has touch on the floater when attacking down the lane to score over taller players in the paint. Where Miller really makes his presence felt is his constant movement off the ball, running off screens to get to his shot spots, and firing from three off the catch, connecting at a high-clip and forcing the defense to over-pursue, which opens up lanes for him to attack or find the open teammates looking to catch and go at the basket.

Jermier Nelson (6'3 | PG) - Fort Mill/Team CP3

Nelson is a physical, athletic, and skilled lead guard that controls the pace of play, can create his own offense or shots for others, and makes plays that contribute to winning. Nelson was one of the top lead guards from the E16 Division at Session 4, as he displayed his arsenal of scoring and play making at a high level in a win over Jet Academy, with a great stat-line of 11 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Nelson keeps the dribble alive to probe the defense, has dynamic handles with shifty moves to keep his defender guessing, using the spin-fadeaway, hesitation, and the various crossover combos to create space from his defender, has an elite burst off the dribble to get by his initial defender, gets good lift with body control on the jumper, from the mid-range to the 3-point line, and gets paint touches routinely, finding openings to score around the basket, using the revere and up-and-under lay-ups, as well as the bounce to go at the basket off the back-cut for the baseline dunk, or to get open on the perimeter for the 3-ball off the catch. Nelson has great court vision and precise passing to find open teammates off the drive and kick pass, to the diver out of the pick and roll action, and up the court of the push in transition to get ahead of the defense, as well as solid on-ball defense with active hands and timing to deflect passes, jump passing lanes, or poke the ball out to generate turnovers.

[player_tooltip player_id='2948286' first='JJ' last='Sati-Grier'] (6'2 | PG) - Sierra Canyon/Team Why Not

Sati-Grier is a shifty, highly skilled, and tough noised lead guard that keeps constant pressure on the defense, has the awareness to make tough reads in tight windows, create his own scoring opportunities, and is a pesky perimeter defender that seems to be in the right place more often than not on the court. Sati-Grier had a strong showing in a win over NW Rotary Rebels to close out Day 1 of Session 4, as he would finish with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, and has become one of my personal favorites to watch in-person with his style of play and relentless motor, taking no plays off. Sati-Grier has elite handles, keeps the ball on a string to survey the floor and weave through the defense to find gaps to attack, has dynamic moves with tons of shift and great body control, using the crossover combinations, the step-back, fadeaway, and hesitation to keep his defender off balance, changes direction and speed on a dime, has a nice burst off the bounce, is an elite scorer at the basket, using the euro-step, up-and-under, spin-move, and reverse lay-ups to evade shot blockers, and has a smooth jumper off the dribble with accuracy from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the dribble. Sati-Grier has great court vision and precision passing to find teammates in tights windows off the drive and kick pass, the bounce pass in the open court, and to the diver out of the pick and roll action, moves well off the ball to get looks off the catch from beyond the arc, and has active hands, quick lateral movement, and the timing to poke the ball out or jump passing lanes to get out and run. The motor, the mindset, and the skill make him must watch basketball for me.

RJ Shehee ([player_tooltip player_id='2557300' first='5'10' last=''] | PG) - Bakersfield Christian/Paul George Elite

Shehee is an athletic and skilled lead guard that makes the right basketball play, can create his own shots or for others, and is an elite on-ball defender. Shehee had a strong showing against a really good Mokan Elite squad, but he made his presence felt, scoring the ball and making plays to get his teammates involved. Shehee keeps the ball on a string, has dynamic handles with the moves to create space from his defender, using the toss-cross, hesitation, crossover, between-cross, wrap-behind, fadeaway, and step-back to get his defender off balance, gets great lift on the jumper with body control to absorb contact in the air, is efficient with the jumper from the mid-range to the 3-point line, and is crafty scoring at the basket, with the euro-step, up-and-under, and reverse lay-ups, as well as the floater to score over height in the paint. Shehee has active hands, great foot-speed, and instincts to stay in front of his opponent, gets into their dribbling space to cause havoc, and looks to poke the ball out, jump passing lanes, and deflect passes to get out in transition and push the pace of play. Shehee has top tier court vision and play making, finding teammates on the dive out of the pick and roll action, up the court in transition, off the drive and kick pass, and well as the cross court pass to open shooters. Really not much the two sport athlete can't do on the court on both ends.

Wallace “Trey” Wright III (6' | PG) - Frisco Lane Star/Drive Nation

Wright is an explosive athlete with physical attributes and skill set to be a true 3-level scorer, can score in volume from the perimeter, and keeps constant pressure on the defense with his change of pace and speed with the ball in hand. Wright was one of the last players I saw live in my 3 days at Session 4 and he left a major impression on everyone watching the big time match-up with [program_tooltip program_id='2371255' first='AB' last='Elite'], and he did not disappoint, finishing with 24 points, connecting on 4 threes. Wright has great handles, keeps the dribble alive to see what the defense is giving up, has a plethora of moves to create shots off the bounce, using the step-back, spin-fade, fadeaway, hesitation, and the crossover combos to get space from his defender, has elite body control and accuracy on the jumper, from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the bounce, and is a crafty scorer at the basket with the reverse and up-and-under lay-ups, as well as the bounce to throw down off the lob or back cuts to get open for passes that lead to baseline dunks. Wright is a solid on-ball defender, gets into his opponents space to force mistakes that lead to turnovers, the timing and awareness to jump passing lanes or poke the ball out, and looks to punch it down when he is close to the basket.
