Team USA Minicamp Sunday Standouts
In this article:
I attended the Team USA Minicamp over the weekend in Indianapolis and in this article we'll break down the standouts from Sunday's camp that featured only 2028 and 2029 prospects.
Sunday featured a split session with the rising seniors playing at Lucas Oil Stadium while the rising juniors and sophomores were at the Pacers Practice Facility. This allowed for some guys like White to get the opportunity to play with the ball in his hands against similar aged competition and he found a rhythm on Sunday to close his weekend on the right foot. White started knocking down shots off the catch, a key skill for him as he usually plays next to other ball dominant guards on the court. I also thought White found it easier to get where he wanted off the dribble and was able to kickout to shooters for assists.

Another prospect who had his best day of the weekend by far, Pettigrew was knocking down shots off the catch early and often on Sunday morning. With his feet set Pettigrew usually knocks down shots off the catch. I also liked that Pettigrew made quick one to two dribble moves to get to his spots. Pettigrew was also running the floor and helping push the pace for his team. I liked that Pettigrew played with some confidence on the final day of the weekend as Chicago area prospects all had bright moments this weekend.

It was nice to see some of the younger bigs going only against players their age as some of the 2027 bigs had their way with the younger group. This allowed a guy like Nwabuoku to physically impose his will on Sunday and play with physicality in the paint. Blocking shots, rebounding on both ends and showing some scoring flashes made him an easy choice for a standout performer. Nwabuoku had a five-point solo run where he knocked down a pick and pop 3-pointer and then ran the floor for a dunk. Seems like Texas has a lot of talented forwards coming through the pipeline and Nwabuoku is another name to add to that list.

One of the top national prospects in the 2028 class, Williams was one of the best players in the gym on Sunday. Williams projects as a potential two-way wing who can knock down shots off the catch and create offense for himself, one of the more valuable archetypes in modern basketball. On Sunday, Williams had maybe the highlight of the day when he jab-stepped one way then attacked going left on the right side of the rim before quickly exploding for a monster slam dunk. Shortly after, Williams used a fake pass to get open and hit a 3-pointer. Georgia's 2028 class is stacked and Williams is at the top of the list.

I'm a big fan of Berrouet as a player right now because he's productive in a variety of settings. Whether it's at USA Minicamp, at the high school level or on the EYBL circuit with AB Elite , Berrouet helps you win. A physical forward who wants to play through contact, Berrouet is one of the better play finishers in the class at the moment. If any player in the class could grow three inches to change his long-term trajectory, Berrouet might benefit the most. I love what he does on the court right now and if he grows that would really increase his long-term upside.

The 2029 prospects had a strong weekend with a handful of them not only competing but thriving on this national stage. Johnson had some extremely impressive flashes with perimeter shot making, active hands defensively and transition scoring. Few players in the 2028 or 2029 class can match Johnson's perimeter ability at his size combined with his fluid athleticism. I expect Johnson to continue to improve as he's newer to high-level basketball than most other prospects his age and grade. A player I'd have a ton of long-term stock in, Johnson will debut highly in the national 2029 rankings when they release in the fall.
