Roosevelt hasn't been to the state tournament since 2013. This winter, they came up just one game shy and losing by three points to eventual state runner-up, Johnston. On an ascension over the last few years, led by Division I prospect and 2027 combo guard, [player_tooltip player_id='2204081' first='Charlie' last='King'] the Roughriders feel primed to break the curse and reach the state tournament for the second time in 44 years. With the pieces they have around King, they even contend for the ever-elusive state championship in 4A.

We'll start with King, though. One of the top scorers in 4A this last season, the junior put up 20.1 points, nine rebounds, three assists and 2.6 steals per game while shooting 50.9% from the field and 33.1% from deep. A pure scorer with a pretty jump shot, the Roughriders use a myriad of actions to get him into catch-and-shoot situations -- one of their more effective ways to score. That, and the 6-foot-5 scorer can put the ball on the deck and create for himself, getting off what look to be effortless jump shots. With a pretty stroke, King's talent as a shooter is evident. A good cutter that shots basketball IQ and the ability to finish at the rim, too, King will be a name to watch amongst the top players in the state next season.

Helping out in the backcourt alongside King third-leading scorer from this winter, [player_tooltip player_id='2772350' first='Frank' last='Lee IV'], a 2028 guard. Another catch-and-shoot weapon on the perimeter, plus a quick, long defender that makes it so opposing guards can never take their foot off the gas, Lee put up 11.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and two steals per game last season for the Roughriders, making their backcourt an opportunistic duo that can score in a variety of ways. If Lee can improve his shooting percentages during his junior campaign, that will help out the Roosevelt offense immensely.

Then, there's the size on the roster, found in [player_tooltip player_id='2754693' first='D'Mir' last='Coleman'], a 6-foot-9 center in the class of 2027. A key presence around the rim on both ends of the floor Coleman averaged 10.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game, while shooting 65.7% from the floor last season. Having a player that brings size to the roster, Coleman is critical in having this Roosevelt as a title contender going into next season. King and Lee are excellent pieces to have, but Coleman's shot-blocking and rebounding ability bring it home for the Roughriders. The soon-to-be senior would benefit greatly from adding some weight to his frame, but his spatial awareness around the rim is great, recognizing when to sag off his assignement and play help defense, often resulting in a blocked shot.
