Round 2 is here!

The field is down to 16 in 6A, where every matchup gets dissected, and adjustments matter just as much as talent. The contenders are starting to separate themselves. Depth gets tested, and identity shows up. Here's the primer of the biggest questions and observations as we head into the Final 16.

George Washington vs. Horizon

GW has to get off to a hot start

The Patriots started their 2nd round playoff game a bit rocky before finally settling into their own and finding themselves, and we've seen them do that in the City League, and it led to some blowout losses, so they must get out to a hot start. [player_tooltip player_id='2399137' first='Kevon' last='Taylor'] had his best game on the block, and GW used him to his strengths of rebounding and around the basket, and reacted around there, and [player_tooltip player_id='1577472' first='Jack' last='Young'] also got hot from deep. The player who will be looked at to step up and have one of his better games of the year will be [player_tooltip player_id='1622323' first='Kris' last='Redwine']. How he begins the game will tell the story, as quick starts for him typically open things up for the Patriots and get them going.

Can Boaz Wins dominate this matchup?

When [player_tooltip player_id='2048130' first='Boaz' last='Wisne'] makes up his mind to just attack, attack, attack — he's tough to slow down. He's a freight train who is skilled enough to take over ball handling duties, he spaces the floor with his outside shot, and we saw a couple of them in their 2nd round win against Columbine. His ability to dominate matchups is what stands out. This will be a matchup that I believe he can have his way if he makes up his mind to be assertive. I'm sure he will see some zone, so his shot must be on. He has to get into the teeth of the defense and finish or drop it off to Noah Sokolowsk,i who had one of the best playoff performances I've seen in quite some time when he had 35 points, 17 FT's. If the duo can do what they've done all season long against a balanced and evenly matched GW squad, this can be a trip to the Coliseum, where bigs typically make the biggest difference. Wisne will be the most important player in this matchup and is the difference between a win and a loss.

Ralston Valley vs. Regis

Battle of the Bigs

All eyes will be on [player_tooltip player_id='1764294' first='Eric' last='Fiedler'] and how they defend him to try and make it to the Coliseum, and this is a matchup where [player_tooltip player_id='2460832' first='Zeke' last='Andrews'] will be called upon. There haven't been many times this year where the spotlight has to be on him defensively but what we have saw is him being a dominant force. He gets to put his defense to the test as the team's best two-way option. He finished up the season averaging 15.9 points and 8 rebounds a game, and he is also the paint protector at 1.6 blocks per game. He's been one of the most consistent competitors the past few years, and he has his most important matchup of the season.

Lynett has leveled up

Before Round 2, we called out [player_tooltip player_id='2403248' first='Michael' last='Price'] being the X factor and player who could win them a tough playoff game, and he went in there and finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds as the X-factor. But another player in that game, and who has quietly put together a stellar season, which has Regis still fighting, is junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='3523664' first='Anthony' last='Lynett']. Lynett had a career-high 20 points and also had a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with it. He dominated the paint and made his mark, and Regis will look for another big game for him as they're up against a Ralston Valley team where whoever executes inside likely wins the game. He has size, he's improved as an inside scorer and finds angles. He's the player I believe is the difference in the game, and I'm excited to see what kind of performance we see out of him.
