We have updated our rankings for the junior class on the site (found here), with 280 total prospects listed and 38 new players in Washington DC and Maryland added into our system to reflect the impact that they have had on their team during this high school season. We had a ton of movement in this update to cover, especially in our top 10, with a new #1 and several new faces joining the elite group of DMV juniors as we gear up for AAU season. That updated top 10 can be found here. In this article, however, we will break down a few stock-rising guard prospects that particularly excel at breaking their matchup down off the bounce. In a modern era predicated on ball and player movement, finding prospects that can get into the teeth of the defense to force rotations are more valuable than ever.

-Wood is one of the-if not the-fastest prospects in the state with the ball in his hands in the open floor. Whether he is in transition, the secondary break, coming off of step up screens or middle PnR-- he's always putting pressure on the rim by hitting his matchup with simple crossovers to get to his spots. As the season went along, our scouts thought he became more and more comfortable making decisions in tight spaces in the key--using that scoring gravity to create for his bigs on the weak side block. His athleticism and tenacious play at both ends of the floor make him a prospect that local LM/MM need to know in the 2027 class.

-Edwards' mid/late season surge as a dynamic floor general was crucial to him earning All-IAC 1st team honors en route to Georgetown Prep's conference championship season. Edwards sets himself up well to come off of ball screens by using his eyes to manipulate the defense or retreat dribbles to set up better angles to his spots in the halfcourt. Edwards' scoring gravity opened up his passing options and he showed an ability to fit a flurry of different passes into tight windows in the half court to beat double teams and set his teammates up for easy buckets. Loved the fire that he played with, fighting through contact in the paint to draw FTs with increasing regularity to buoy his offensive performances throughout the season.

-Bates continues to remain a hidden gem in the area despite being named Honorable Mention for DCSAA as the lead guard for Cardozo this season (SWW did not field a varsity team, so he is playing his basketball with Cardozo). Bates possesses a lightning quick first step and takes advantage of backwards positioning tactics from defenders that aren't used to guarding southpaw players, getting to his strong hand quickly off of wide crossovers to get to the paint to create for himself or teammates. Over the course of the season his confidence continued to bloom, as he hit a game-winner and assisted on a few more game-tying baskets throughout the season---displaying the duality that makes him an intriguing scholarship-level prospect in the DMV.

-Lewis continues his ascension in our rankings after turning in a First Team All-League season in Anne Arundel County en route to a finish in the state semifinals. Lewis' drives generated a ~70% assist rate as a playmaker that did a great job of finding his teammates with or without ball screens being set for him. Love the physicality and decisiveness on his drives to the rim as he is adept at playing bully ball or exploding past his matchup on his way to the cup. Very excited to track his development in AAU this offseason.

-One of our staff's favorite small college prospects in the area, Camps makes good decisions as a pure point guard prospect that is constantly looking to create high percentage looks for his team. Camps uses a series of jab steps and spin moves to reject screens or send his opponents one direction so that he can drive in the opposite path. His ability to stop n pop for jumpshots from the midrange forces opponents to play up, which he often uses against them to duck under closeouts after hitting his matchup with a pump fake. Excited to see how he uses this summer to prepare for his senior season with a WC team that graduates some key pieces.

-Oyekan's physicality from the football field definitely rubs off on his play on the hardwood as a physical downhill driver that bullies his way to the paint. Over the course of the season, Oyekan began to capitalize on the passing windows that open up in the key, sometimes even landing on two feet before kicking out to a perimeter teammate after drawing the help defenders to him in the key. Even when he missed his first attempt at the rim he usually exploded up for a second jump to score the putback before the defense had a chance to react. Excited to see where he chooses to play his travel ball this offseason!
