Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2120496' first='Ben' last='Rebischke'] hit threes on three of the first four Edina possessions. He scored the same amount of points in the first four possessions (9) that he did in the previous two games (9). If you are Chaska you almost have to just tip the cap because these were threes that weren't late in the clock and they were deep. Great start from Edina but if you are Chaska, you soldier on with some tough luck.

Edina switching everything has certainly given Chaska problems on the first five possessions leading to misses and a couple quick turnovers.

Even though we haven't seen it become much, you can see that [player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] is getting the corner turn when needs it and Edina's been good on ball but the help has been scrambled, keep that in mind as the game moves on and players get tired. And three possessions later Edina switched a forward to Forrest and he blew past them for a lay-up while the Hornet help was frozen. Chaska still down 5-13 but you just feel this lead will Edina lead will close quick based on what you see from the team defenses.

I really like a lot of the things Gus Carptenter is doing in a team way. Three quick rebounds, really good passer facing or with back to the basket, good screener for the Hornets opening players all over. Strong 6'3 forward.

Two threes from [player_tooltip player_id='2126115' first='Vincent' last='Cronin'] and its' now Edina up 19-5. Five threes made for Edina already shooting 7 of 9 to start while Chaska has four earn turnovers. Chaska isn't defending great but not terrible either, having trouble contesting a step beyond the arc.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126115' first='Vincent' last='Cronin'] is playing point guard for Edina more often than not so far. Is the situation kind of like Eagan and Faribault have (or have had) going on with [player_tooltip player_id='1560747' first='Alex' last='Schroepfer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2118832' first='Breuer' last='Wolff'] where the teams just don't have a great lead guard option so their really versatile players are playing that spot at times out of need, or is Cronin that much better as a PG than a solid Edina PG? This could also be game situational, whatever the case, gives you another idea of the Cronin versatility.

[player_tooltip player_id='2841981' first='Jed' last='Keenan'] all of a sudden has three threes made in a flash for Chaska and its a three score game at 22-14. That's a 6'5 freshman knocking these out and changing game momentum. Edina defense not as much bad as the ball has found a lengthy shooter scoring over the top on the other end now.

Chaska guard [player_tooltip player_id='1874914' first='Marquis' last='Connell'] has come off the bench and given his team some defensive energy.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] had a short break for Chaska and while he was doing that Chaska went on a run to close the game to 21-26 with [player_tooltip player_id='2113031' first='Eli' last='Herzog'] and Josh Keenan hitting threes. Not a fresh Forrest steps on the floor, seems like the perfect time for a Hawks run to really get going. Great job by some of the Chaska second unit guys giving their team a lift.

With Chaska now within two scores, Edina has taken two really quick threes that missed. Need to be grinding out possessions and getting an easy one at this point and they have launched fast not setting the offense making the Hawks work. 31-26 Edina up.

Great set from Chaska with dual baseline screens and shooters cutting baseline from opposite sides, Forrest found Keenan (the freshman) for his fourth three and a big momentum score. That feels like a basket to remember as a big turning point. Chaska 29, Edina 33

Scratch that, it's Edina with two more threes (teams have combined for 15 already). Cronin hit his third and a really good Hornet set gets [player_tooltip player_id='2430772' first='Mason' last='Mohs'] fading after some flex action to hit a three. Good screen from Cronin, another good pass from Gus who now has five assists.

Edina is up 41-34 at the half. Check this out...... That 18 minute first half was played in 27 real time minutes. That has to be the fastest half I have seen all year.

SECOND HALF

[player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] is doing a great job defending [player_tooltip player_id='2430772' first='Mason' last='Mohs'] so far. Mohs only has four attempts so far and two were quite tough.

[player_tooltip player_id='2430771' first='Raji' last='Ligdi'] has done some really good things for Edina in this game. Has scored on three of four attempts and has moved the ball well. Just had an attacking assist to put Edina up 43-34 early in the second half. Ligdi is a senior guard who has done more and more of the ball handling as the game has went on.

Back to that Forrest defense, he just stayed with Mohs, blocked the shot, collected the ball and pushed, and created a lay-up for a teammate cutting the lead to 38-45. That is a big time collection of plays in five seconds from a player.

Chaska is really hurting Edina in quick transition off of Hornet misses. Mohs latest miss flies other way or an [player_tooltip player_id='2113031' first='Eli' last='Herzog'] three. Hornets missed three in the paint, Chaska went the other way for a lay-up. Edina misses lay-up, Chaska gets fouled at the rim, it's a 44-45 game. Transition game has really helped Chaska capitalize off their defense.

A high scoring first half has become a tough second of scoring. [player_tooltip player_id='2839785' first='Evan' last='Atkinson'], [player_tooltip player_id='2841981' first='Jed' last='Keenan'] and Matt Weller have really done a nice job forcing things from Cronin over the top as the junior has missed four shots in a row over Chaska length. And the Chaska team defense is giving Edina next to no space to work as a team defense.

After a big scoring first half, there are four minutes to go and Edina has only 13 second half points, Chaska has 18.

Luke Miller just forced a turnover for Edina. He is a 6'5 junior that has played good minutes of the bench with six rebounds and a lot of solid defense. Hit a three too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] with a great attack and finish getting through the initial defender and the help. Ties the game at the three minute mark and the announcer said "in his bag" and that did not sound natural but those 30 and under will get it!

Huge three from [player_tooltip player_id='2113031' first='Eli' last='Herzog'] to put Chaska up 57-54 with two minutes to go. His third of the game. Meanwhile, Edina is having a nightmare of a time getting a good shot against the Chaska defense in the second half.

Edina wins 61-56.

Prospect Notes

[player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] of Chaska (Jr). His first step is quick and that is not only because of his quickness as an athlete, but also because of his timing, knowledge of what is going on in front of him, and the leverage he gets on his defender. A first step can be very good for a variety of reasons and Tyler exemplifies that. I just can't say enough good things about Tyler when it comes to his feel: such a good passer, his timing of decisions made reading the defense is almost always perfect, and he is a low mistake player. A guy that I 100 percent would recommend to so many colleges as a leader at the lead guard spot. Let's also keep in mind that Forrest defended Edina's second best scoring option (a two guard) and limited that player to one make while frustrating that player into some tough shots missed. Not only did Tyler lead the defense, he led the transition push as well that hurt Edina in the second half badly. Had 14 points on eight shots plus a six assists, great floor game and played well on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126115' first='Vincent' last='Cronin'] of Edina (Jr). He is out here playing lead guard a lot of times at 6'7. That says a lot about his versatility and growth. That doesn't mean he is going to be a college lead guard of course, it means that he is becoming a smarter, trusted, more skilled versatile player. He hit three first half threes and was rebounding strong with all the size on the floor. And if you want to talk athletic/explosive, Cronin caught and spun on his guy in the same motion, dribbled once while getting his feet set for a nasty two hand dunk. It's not the dunk as much as the fluid motion to do all of that so quickly with great control that impresses. Had 19 points on 17 shots, grabbed seven boards.

Jed Kennan of Chaska (Fr). A 6'5 freshman knocking out five threes in a half but also moving the ball intelligently for three assists. This is a wing with a good shooting touch that is scoring eight a game as a frosh at the AAAA level and he did it in this game never taking a bad shot and while moving the ball in the offense. It's a small sample size but in this game you see the shooting/scoring touch, you see good decisions, and it's a player with size. Had a team high 19 points highlighted by the five threes.

[player_tooltip player_id='1961315' first='Gus' last='Carpenter'] of Edina (Sr). I really like the all around contributions from Carptenter who is a 6'3 forward. A really strong rebounder, excellent passer in the halfcourt offense all over and a good screener. Seems like a player that would be a physical fit for the division three level some place. Totalled a dozen boards and six assists.
