The Zero Gravity Prep Classic, one of the nation's best high school basketball events of the year, just wrapped up in Stoughton, MA, on Sunday, December 7th.
As always, it's incredibly difficult to watch every team and every game, so I watch as much as I can and have standouts from what I watch. I'm always happy to talk to coaches about guys that I may have overlooked, and I'll almost always try to write about new players who I've never scouted before.

Mathey is on Newman's second team, so he probably gets less attention than he deserves, but I love his game. I've always known he could shoot the ball—he has a super quick release and a compact, accurate shot—but I was impressed with his ability to drive closeouts and finish with athleticism and smoothness at the hoop in the Prep Classic. Against Green Farms Academy, he had multiple nice conversions at the hoop and showcased a well-rounded scoring game. D3's should be very interested in Mathey's size, length, and potential to put on weight and develop into a really great athlete.

Dunlap is a 6-foot-3 forward who can legitimately play the small ball five because of his energy and physicality on both ends. He's a phenomenal athlete who does quite well at the dunker spot because of his instincts and finishing ability, but he can also get offensive rebounds and find ways to be around the ball at all times. His defense is excellent and he's super versatile on that end, but he isn't going to wow you with any flashy moves or a beautiful shooting stroke. He just gets the job done and does all the dirty work.

Charchaflian had a good summer and fall when I saw him play, but I'm not sure I expected this level of impact this season for what looks to be an excellent Nobles squad. The 6-foot sophomore is a phenomenal passer and is surprisingly confident and effective at the point guard position; he makes cross-court reads in his sleep and is unselfish and smart. But he also knows when to take over and uses slow step moves at the rim to finish. Charchaflian has no offensive weakness and is a name to keep an eye on in the coming years.

Payne had some insane AAU games a year ago but never necessarily unlocked his full scoring arsenal for Tabor last season. But the 6-foot-5 wing looks poised to be a big time scorer this year and has his athleticism back. He can get above the rim for dunks and finishes, and he gets lots of elevation on his jumper—which he seems far more confident in. He's going to have more on-ball opportunities this season, and his recruitment should continue to pick up as a result.

Bennett is a really shifty and skilled point guard who I hadn't heard of before I watched St. Sebastian's game against Proctor during the Prep Showcase. But the lefty point guard is super tough to stay in front of and makes really good decisions for himself and his teammates once he gets into the lane. He has great discernment in the pick and roll and a nice looking shot, but the sophomore looks like he still has a lot of growing left to do. Bennett is part of a young, talented core at St. Sebastians that should make some noise this season.

Carter, another sophomore at St. Sebastians, impressed me quite a bit with his offensive skillset and feel this weekend. He isn't a freak athlete but he has excellent footwork around the rim and does a good job extending for finishes at the hoop. The 6-foot-4 wing also had a nice fadeaway move and made some shots from the perimeter, so he clearly has the ability to score at all three levels. Carter has a strong body for his age and is more than ready to play at this level right now.

Skehan didn't put up insane numbers for Austin Prep this weekend, but he was rock solid and showcased the ability to run a team quite effectively. He's so quick and shifty with the ball in his hands, and he makes the right read no matter whether it shows up in the stat sheet or not. When he needs to be more aggressive, the south paw can get to the front of the rim or hit an outside shot, but he's more comfortable getting his teammates involved and handling pressure. Awesome true point guard.

It will never make sense how little attention Mitchner Jr. gets. Perhaps it's because he's on a team with [player_tooltip player_id='2341363' first='Alex' last='Egbuonu'] or maybe it's due to his lack of flash. Regardless, the senior gets the job done for Lawrence Academy and continues to wow me with his composure and consistency. The 6-foot-3 guard can get into the lane at will and always gets onto two feet, so he makes patient, under control decisions at all times. He can also knock down shots from the perimeter and score when he needs to, and he's able to play with or without the ball. Mitchner Jr. might Be Lawrence Academy's second best player, and they'll be playing in some pretty massive games this season if I had to guess, so his recruitment should pick up.
