We've recently updated our senior class rankings in the state, with over 200 players ranked and plenty of new names and movement throughout the rankings. Here's a look at the top 5 of the top point and combo guards in the senior class.

5) [player_tooltip player_id='2134650' first='Jayden' last='Joseph'] | 6'2” PG | Gillion Academy (#15 Overall)

Joseph is one of the many influx of Florida based players that transferred to Gillion in the school's second year of existence, instantly making them one of the top teams in the DMV if not the entire country, and as the guy running the show he's a big reason why. The FAMU commit may not be the one who is putting up the biggest numbers who getting the most clicks on social media, but he's very much the tone setter on both ends and the engine that makes this car run with his playmaking ability. The 6'2” guard is a dual threat scorer and distributor who can work on the ball both in isolation and in ball screens to break down the defense, he is excellent pushing the rock in transition and making good decisions, he can score the ball efficiently from all three levels off the bounce and he can move off the ball and knock down shots from deep, and he is a very good on ball defender as well.

4) [player_tooltip player_id='1782590' first='Lawrence' last='Brown'] | 6'0” PG | Paul VI (#12 Overall)

“Turk” as he's known by his teammates and coaches transferred to PVI last year from St. Andrew's and immediately took over the role as the primary ball handler and playmaker, and he hit the ground running and never looked back helping them win another WCAC Championship and keeping them solidified in the national rankings as well. The 6'0” Florida Gulf Coast commit has some throwback floor general style to his game, as he sees the game a few plays ahead and reads rotations fantastically in the half court, while also being an absolute menace in transition with his speed and ability to look off defenders and deliver passes on point and in tight spaces. He's a very strong and physical guard who can take contact offensively and deliver it guarding the ball defensively, he's shifty and has good burst with good change of speed and direction, he has improved his consistency with his outside shot, and he picks his spots and scores it efficiently from all three levels.

3) [player_tooltip player_id='1660045' first='Donovan' last='Williams Jr.'] | 6'3” CG | Oak Hill Academy (#6 Overall)

Williams is one of the few returners for this new look Oak Hill Academy team that revamped and looks to make noise on the EYSL Circuit, and the Orlando native who committed to stay home and go to UCF is ready to lead a talented squad against some of the nation's best this season. The 6'3” combo guard is an uber talented dual threat guy who can fill it up in bunches from all over the floor, but also is an unselfish playmaker who can get others easy buckets when the defense starts to focus on him. With his size and strength at his position he's able to use his physicality to create space and knock down tough shots from all three levels off the bounce, he can move off the ball and make shots on the move, he's a good rebounder for his position and able to start the break without an outlet, and he has a toughness to him that you simply can't teach.

2) [player_tooltip player_id='2134664' first='Willie' last='Burnett'] | 6'4” CG | Gillion Academy (#5 Overall)

Of all the guys who came from Team Breakdown and the Florida area to this Gillion team, I'm not sure there's any that fit the mold of a Florida type of player the way Burnett does, as he has a mix of athleticism, toughness, and insanely tough shot making ability that makes him such a nightmare to matchup with. The Mississippi State commit will fit in just fine in Chris Jans' system where he lets his guards go and score the ball, as he can isolate or work out of ball screens and has the ability to either create space or rise over smaller guards and hit tough shots in the midrange or from deep. He has fantastic footwork to stay on balance off spins and uses pivots and fakes well to be able to create space, he can move off the ball and is able to set his feet on the move and drill shots from deep, he's an athletic finisher when he gets to the rim with good hang time and can finish tough shots through contact, and his quickness and length allows him to jump passing lanes and get deflections as well.

1) Darius Biviins | 6'1” PG | Bishop O'Connell (#4 Overall)

Bivins has been one of the top guards in the DMV since he was a freshman at Alexandria City, and through his play at O'Connell last year where he helped lead them to the VISAA D-I State Championship as well as his dominant play on the 3SSB Circuit with the Washington Warriors, he has cemented himself as a consensus top 60 player in the country and is one of the top available players in the country. The thing that separates Bivins from other guards is his craft and IQ, as he isn't the biggest or the most athletic guard, but he carves up defenses like it's nothing and makes it look easy as he's controlling the game and putting up big numbers as the same time. Whether it's his ability to change speeds and use crossovers and hesitations, or use a ball screen and put his defenders in jail, he's able to get to his spots where he can finish in the midrange with an array of pull-ups or floaters over much bigger defenders. At the rim he finishes with both hands off of both feet with the confidence of an NBA guard, he has fantastic feel and vision and delivers passes with both hands on point, he sets the tone defensively with his instincts on that end, and he always seems to step up in big games and against big time matchups as well.
