Although Jordan Smith Jordan Smith 6'1" | SG Robinson | 2028 State VA took over the final late, I really felt Turk Brown kept PVI in it early. Turk hit a number of shots in both games, and he helped get PVI’s run going with his shooting. Turk showed his toughness against O’Connell by coming back into the game and making some plays after getting hit in the face diving for a loose ball, and having his knee bent in an awkward position. Turk’s leadership and fit next to Jordan Smith Jordan Smith 6'1" | SG Robinson | 2028 State VA were crucial to why PVI was so great this year.

Turk is the conductor that allows Paul VI to be top team in the country. To go with his ability to create for others, Turk is a sound/shifty driver and legit perimeter shooter with legit 3pt range on jumper, and he has done a great job using his size to get into the post when defended by smaller guards. He has great footwork on the block and that makes him a solid 3 level scoring threat in the half court when it’s needed. Turk finishes the game with 14 points on 4-8 from the field, 2-5 from the 3pt line, 1 rebound, 4 assists and 5 steals.

The conductor of the Paul VI firepower is the Florida Gulf Coast signee. He just knows what buttons to push when he is out on the floor setting table for his teammates. He knocks the 3’s, gets into the paint and makes plays for himself or his teammates. Turk continues to be the glue that makes the timely plays on both ends of the floor. He is the ultimate coach on the floor…Finish the game with 9 points.

I’d make the argument that Brown is playing the best version of basketball of his high school career right now. His ability and willingness to toggle on and off the ball next to Smith Jr. speaks to his character, approach and growth. He’ll man the controls in college as a point guard, but in order for this PVI team to make a run as truly one of the best teams in the country, they need him to do what he’s doing now which means knocking down three’s at an efficient clip, making high-level reads on drives and maintaining discipline within the team defensive scheme. There’s a confidence and pep to his step that is evident and when you put that alongside the likes of the perfect puzzle pieces that head coach Glenn Farello has put together, it results in 20+ point wins like we saw on Saturday evening. He’d go on to finish with a clean 12 points and seemingly made the right play anytime the ball was in his hands.

Brown is one of the better game managing point guards in the region thanks to his experience playing under the bright lights against elite competition. In these sort of settings, he and Smith tend to share the on-ball role, but Brown taps into more of a half court initiator to ensure execution of sets while picking his spots to attack gaps for quick scoop layups or remaining shot-ready on the perimeter as action unfolds in the paint. Brown’s strongest performance game in the opening win over Garfield Heights (OH) where he scored 15 points and dished out six assists with his future coaching staff from Florida Gulf Coast sitting court side.

The PVI point guard looked very comfortable near his future college home and playing in front of his future college coach as Brown averaged 13 points and 4 assists per game during the first two days in Fort Myers. The Florida Gulf Coast signee knows how to run a team and continues to prove he can be a scoring option as well.

Brown feasted on the fact that Mount Carmel was missing both of their point guard options and exposed the weakness with persistent aggression in getting into the paint, forcing the defense to collapse, and finding open teammates all over the floor. The senior floor general presents himself as exactly that, a coach on the floor who along with Smith Jr., controls the pace and energy of a game to favor their group. Brown was a big reason Mitchell Jr. was able to have the day that he had with his table-setting and floor vision to get him shots within the flow. As mentioned above, he and Smith Jr. were an absolute terror in trapping scenarios as the duo forced a plethora of turnovers that resulted in quick buckets the other way or desperation fouls from the Cougars to save lay-ups.

Turk Brown was a big piece for PVI in his first season there. Turk is a point guard who has a great handle and is a terrific passer. He is strong and has a high IQ. What I loved about Turk’s transition and fit on this PVI team was he was extremely effective off the ball as well. You saw it a lot in the WCAC playoffs when
