The Royals and Apple Valley Eagles engage in a top ten game and there is a monster game up north between two of the best teams in Northern Minnesota.

9AAAA Apple Valley at 4AAAA Hopkins

Match-Ups to Watch

[player_tooltip player_id='2271330' first='Trey' last='Parker'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='1560839' first='Xavier' last='Frelix']. These are shooting guard shooters/scorers that can change a game. Parker is depended on more for the Eagles because they require his scoring for their team more, but both players are going to make shots. If Frelix can match Parker that will go a long way and Frelix has the potential to do that.

[player_tooltip player_id='1560866' first='Camare'' last='Young'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2420169' first='Ahmed' last='Nur']. I am not totally sure how these match-ups will go. Maybe Nur is on Young, maybe [player_tooltip player_id='2388499' first='Anthony' last='Byrd'], maybe even [player_tooltip player_id='1874906' first='Kyree' last='Nelson']. We will see. I have to believe that Young will see Nur at some point and the key here will be the Eagle strong size of 6'4-6'5 forwards ([player_tooltip player_id='2416949' first='Tyrese' last='Hutton'], [player_tooltip player_id='2460586' first='Ryan' last='Christiansen'], Young) keeping Nur away from the paint. Nur drew a ton of fouls against Tartan.

Prediction: Hopkins 80 Apple Valley 66. I would expect [player_tooltip player_id='1550877' first='Jayden' last='Moore'] back tonight and with him, Nelson, [player_tooltip player_id='2560534' first='Tre' last='Moore'], Greg Carter and Frelix in the backcourt I don't know that the Eagles have the depth to handle all of that.

[player_tooltip player_id='1628768' first='Connor' last='Duden'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2420045' first='Carson' last='McDonald']. These are 20 point per game players at 6'1 that are both three level scorers at their respective levels. Both players are preseason all-state talents. Duden is signed with Bemidji State and it's a chance for McDonald to show what he is capable of against a top player. Duden will have a big say here though, he is a top notch defender as well.

Will Gieseke vs [player_tooltip player_id='2420039' first='Chase' last='Lindgren']. Will defends the opposing point guards/top play maker and Will is a very good playmaker for EGF. Chase can really shoot it, Will can score but is even more of a creator. Both are returning all league guards.

Prediction: Red Lake County 73 East Grand Forks 71. Last year it was a 20 point game but it should be closer this year with EGF having so much back and taking a step forward into the top ten of AA.

10AAA St. Peter at Waseca

Match-Ups to Watch

[player_tooltip player_id='2815371' first='Owen' last='Potts'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2121332' first='Deron' last='Russell']. Deron - an NDSU football signed player - has scored 91 points in two games and his smooth scoring punch has him pushing to top five player in the state and top five basketball prospect in the state, even though he is a future football player. Potts is the go to man for St. Peter and has a prospect basketball future as well. Fun match-up.

[player_tooltip player_id='2815210' first='Parker' last='Maloney'] vs Daries Powell. I don't have an extensive knowledge of the Jays depth but I know Powell is the tallest player at 6'4 and I know he is in the rotation. They will need his length on Maloney who is 6'7 and a future lineman for South Dakota.

Prediction: St. Peter 83 Waseca 75. The Jays are breaking in a lot of new talent and they are doing it against a gauntlet of good teams to start the season (Belle Plaine, New Ulm, St. Peter, LCWM) and they are in a tough spot again against a team that returns all of their key players.

Blake at 4AA Holy Family

Match-Ups to Watch

[player_tooltip player_id='2118459' first='Carson' last='McMichael'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='1560786' first='Lexyn' last='Grof']. Carson has helped lead his team to a pair of double figure wins already scoring a combined 50 points in two games. The Fire has not played yet but his role for Holy Family is similar to what Carson does for Blake, shoot/score.

[player_tooltip player_id='2416987' first='Aiden' last='Wilson'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2140617' first='Geno' last='Ward']. Wilson and Ward will also have similar roles: quick playmakers in the backcourt that will feed others, bring the ball up, play some defense, and score some. Wilson is the Blake second leading scorer, Ward will be a top Fire scorer.

Prediction: Holy Family 78 Blake 67. The Fire haven't played but they will have more size up front and they have solid to good size that will be quite productive. That should give them the edge while Blake has the three games edge when the Fire play their first.

Match-Ups to Watch

[player_tooltip player_id='2118474' first='Ethan' last='Martin'] vs [player_tooltip player_id='2845973' first='Jack' last='Burke']. [player_tooltip player_id='2118474' first='Ethan' last='Martin'] is a scoring machine from the elbow and in. He is scoring 33 points a game right now in this short season while fellow 6'4 forward [player_tooltip player_id='2845973' first='Jack' last='Burke'] - a great shooter - leads SW with nearly 17 points per game.

Logan Anderson vs [player_tooltip player_id='2527105' first='Jameson' last='McCarthy']. Forward Logan Anderson is scoring 22 points a game and his team will need that, plus he will need to help his team defend the 6'7 skilled size of McCarthy.

Prediction: Belle Plaine 66 Southwest MN Christian 62.
