Kyler's Player Notebook (12/20-12/23)

The Prep Hoops Indiana Crew has been on the road the giving you the best coverage in the state per usual. I, myself have been able to catch a few games in-person since Saturday as well as catch a few holiday games on Tuesday. With a good amount of random notes on our prospects, I thought it would good time to empty the notebook before the Christmas break. Here is my notebook from 12/20-12/23.    The Bedford Stars had a tough matchup vs Silver Creek this past Saturday however the lone bright spot for them was the play of senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1560977' first='Daxton' last='Short']. He was easily the most aggressive player on the floor for BNL finishing with 18 points for them. Short is known to be aggressive in the lane but he shot the outside ball pretty well in this game also. As long as makes smart decisions on both ends of the floor while remaining aggressive, he can Bedford a chance in most games.     The Silver Creek Dragons have had a pretty busy last 4 days traveling to Bedford for a 30 point win followed by the two games at the Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle. While the Silver Creek's star players did their thing, a couple of under-the-radar guys had nice showing also with one of them certainly being junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='2470698' first='Brody' last='McLaughlin']. He is a real versatile mismatch of both ends of the floor with his true length, solid athleticism, and just willingness to make the little play happen in a big way. What really impressed me in the game I watched of his was his consistent play around the basket as a rebounder and scorer.     The senior guard is the man the seemingly runs the show for Dragons just making things happen when they need to. Got a chance to watch him in-person vs Bedford and it is pretty apparent that Sprigler is a do-it-all type of guard. He gets to the basket well while using his length and pairs it with a very smooth jumper. He benefits extremely well off the defense trying to contain Daeger, Caldwell, and Hunter. He carried over what he did vs Bedford on Saturday to great performance at the Hall of Fame Classic.     I think one of the more intriguing prospects I watched at the Hall of Fame Classic was senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='1561016' first='Bryce' last='Peters']. I was able to watch him vs Silver Creek and while he only ended up with 7 points, feels like he just adds an extra bit of pure athleticism to a very deep Crown Point team. He has really good size on the wing, attacks the lane with an explosive first step, and uses nice agility around the basket. He adds another dynamic that you have to deal with if you are playing Crown Point.     Was able to catch a southern Indiana matchup on Tuesday night between the defending Class 1A Champs Orleans and the Mitchell Bluejackets. For the Orleans Bulldogs, the best player on the floor for them is senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='2813537' first='Alex' last='DeWitt'], who brings in a ton of experience for them. DeWitt is a strong player that attacks very hard and just plays with tough motor nonstop. He is comfortable scoring at the rim but can hit a few jumpers as well.     A couple of very under-the-radar players that I got a chance to watch for Orleans happened to share the same last name with the first one being 2026 center Mason Free. Freed is a long, lanky 6'6 center that had some strong post up moves vs Mitchell. His bread and butter however was his rim protecting ability as he had multiple blocked shots on that night and did a good job of hunting them down as we. Having a player like Freed on a Class 1A team will always be a major advantage.     The other under-the-radar player on Orleans that I got a chance to watch on Tuesday night was senior shooting guard Dane Freed. While he may only be around 5'9, he was easily the best shooter on the floor in the Orleans vs Mitchell game. He did such a good job sliding off of screens, getting his feet set, and firing off screens. While I did not take official stats, he had to at least hit four threes on the night with all of them being real smooth off the catch. Just another strong piece to this Orleans team.
