Waukegan Has No Problems Advancing to Semis

In the first game of the winners bracket Waukegan dominated from the jump beating Antioch 71-28. It was the suffocating defense and full court press that was relentless in the first half as they got turnover after turnover. They have length and athleticism across the board even with one of their top players [player_tooltip player_id='1845351' first='Simereon' last='Carter'] out with an injury. Class of 2026 power forward [player_tooltip player_id='1845356' first='Jaali' last='Love'] was his usual bouncy self as he got on the offensive boards, ran the floor, scored out of dunker spot, and hit a couple jumpers for 16 points. The breakout players for Waukegan were [player_tooltip player_id='2437117' first='Adrian' last='Serrano'] and Trey'veon Roberts. Serrano is a stocky guard that was active defensively, was excellent passing including threading the needle on a full court bounce pass, played with athleticism at the rim, and banged in multiple threes for 9 points and quite a few dimes. Roberts created turnovers then pushed in open floor finding teammates and scoring on acrobatic layups of his own over and over for 18 points. Another athletic guard [player_tooltip player_id='2403270' first='Jeremiah' last='Edwards'] had a strong game using his strength and quickness for steals and buckets for 9 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1552444' first='Carter' last='Newsome'] is the calming presence of it all as he always seems under control in the chaos with his active hands defensively and pin point passing! Going to be a great small college guard!

Bright spot for Antioch was 2026 guard [player_tooltip player_id='1552450' first='Mark' last='Render'] as the 6'1” guard shot it well from three for 11 points.

Sycamore Squeaks Past Lake View as 2026s Duel it Out

Fun second game as several new prospects emerged! Sycamore took home the narrow win 66-64 to advance to play Waukegan in the semis. It was 6'4” small forward Isaiah Feuerbach that was the star for Sycamore. The senior dropped 23 points in the victory. Very skilled and tough wing that won on straight line takes, posted up, hit a couple threes, passed well, and got after it defensively. Nose for the basketball! Xander Lewis was a consistent point guard in this one. He is a quick guard with most of his damage either coming on drives for layups or getting to the line where he racked up the points netting 16 in the game. [player_tooltip player_id='2847907' first='Marcus' last='Johnson'] and Josiah Mitchell each helped out in the backcourt with 10 points and 8 points respectively.

Lake View got a big outing from their star [player_tooltip player_id='2435304' first='Ledarrel' last='Goss'] who broke out this summer on the PHC. He is an explosive 2026 scoring guard that is quick twitched. The athleticism really pops as he got loose in transition for difficult scores at the cup. The jumper was on point as well notching four threes along with a crisp pull up game for 27 points. [player_tooltip player_id='2356880' first='Isaiah' last='Betancourt'] emerged as a strong bodied wing who did his damage from 15 feet and in on scores around the cup and getting on the glass for second chance points.

Pomis Puts on Show Leading Hersey Victory

It was the [player_tooltip player_id='2416503' first='Charlie' last='Pomis'] show for Hersey in their 73-47 win against St. Charles North. He went for 34 points and did it in an efficient manner! It all started with him throwing down a massive dunk to set the tone for the contest on the first possession. He had everything in his bag all working like a video game! Poured in five from distance, mixed in mid-range shots, and got by his man in one on one situations. Big time performance! His running mate in the backcourt [player_tooltip player_id='1552439' first='Logan' last='Luxem'] had a rock solid game pouring in feathery jumpers from two and three, passing with flair, and cutting passing lanes for dunks notching 14 points. One of the fastest rising quarterbacks in the state is Jake Nawrot and the 2027 is effective on the hardwood as well. He had 16 points playing inside finishing out of the dunker spot, running the floor, and putting it on the deck for short drives.

St. Charles North got a big game out of [player_tooltip player_id='2217951' first='Cooper' last='Mellican']. Sleeper forward that is just so crafty with the ball. He had 20 points in the loss. Worked mostly from 15 feet in as he hit a couple mid-range shots, spin moves, soft touch finishes, a strong baseline take, and got on the offensive glass. Jake Love was a solid glue guy for St. Charles North with 9 points.

Shepard Pulls Away to Win over Woodstock

The last semi finalist spot goes to Shepard as they topped Woodstock 67-54. Very good showing from this squad. Their highest ceiling prospect is [player_tooltip player_id='2834463' first='Amari' last='Williams']. The 2028 center is a physical big man that did a nice job on the glass which is where he scored the majority of his 6 points. On the perimeter it was a balanced effort as Zach Cosme had 13 points, [player_tooltip player_id='2962319' first='Danny' last='McGovern'] went for 11 points, and Peter Primbas dropped 12 points. Billy Massey drained a pair of threes that stretched the lead in the fourth that were huge.

Woodstock's star is 2027 shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='2469073' first='Max' last='Beard']. He was aggressive with his driving game getting to the rim and finishing maneuvering his body like gumby on some of the finishes. Super athletic finisher and has a quick second jump. Very good rebounder for a wing. He had 21 points.
