There were a number of remarkable individual performances around the state in the opening week of action. Below we take a look at eight of the top Class 4A showings from the first seven days of action in a series that we plan to continue throughout the year, hopefully without too many repeats!

2027 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2309944' first='Josiah' last='Harrington'] (North Scott) -- 45 points (16-28 FG, 2-10 3P, 11-12 FT), 14 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks [at Liberty]

The top-ranked player in the state, Harrington was electric in his season debut, dropping 45 points on efficient shooting against Liberty in a game that was highly entertaining. He's exceptional around the rim, moves well without the ball in his hands, and is really starting to fill out his frame, adding strength which is allowing him to finish through contact at a high level. He didn't shoot it well from behind the arc in this game, but that's another area of his game that is really potent.

2027 PG [player_tooltip player_id='2118611' first='Jerimiah' last='Washpun'] (Liberty) -- 40 points (16-31 FG, 6-11 3P, 2-3 FT), 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal [vs. North Scott]

Washpun was exceptional in the same game as Harrington, scoring 40 points and keeping Liberty within striking distance. At one point he made eight straight shots, and he showed his all-around offensive arsenal throughout - scoring off the dribble, knocking down shots off the catch, creating looks for his teammates. He was fantastic.

2028 PG [player_tooltip player_id='2595605' first='MarQwan' last='Morgan'] (Davenport North) -- 31 points (10-19 FG, 7-11 3P, 4-5 FT), 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal [vs. Prairie]

The top-ranked sophomore in the state, Morgan was great in the Wildcats' season-opening upset of Prairie, the team that we had ranked #3 in Class 4A to open the year. Morgan has always been great at playing downhill, using his size, length, athleticism, and ball-handling to get to the rim, but it was his 3-point shooting that really stood out in this game. If his improved shooting is for real and here to stay, watch the Division I offers continue to pile up for this talented young guard.

2027 PF [player_tooltip player_id='2419756' first='Blayn' last='Robinson'] (Clinton) -- 29 points (10-12 FG, 1-2 3P, 8-9 FT), 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks [vs. Cedar Rapids Jefferson]

Robinson transferred to Clinton from Central DeWitt and made an immediate impact for the River Kings, using his 6-7 frame and athleticism to post a big double-double on highly efficient shooting. He's a mobile, active big man who can finish above the rim, step out and stretch the floor, and provide some versatility on the defensive end.

2026 PG [player_tooltip player_id='1978116' first='Grady' last='Braunschweig-Norris'] (Southeast Polk) -- 28 points (12-17 FG, 3-4 3P, 1-1 FT), 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals [at Des Moines North]

Braunschweig-Norris impressed in the Rams' win over North, scoring an efficient 28 points and doing a great job getting to the rim off the dribble and in transition. He's a crafty ball-handler who sees the floor well, absorbs contact around the bucket, and can get his teammates involved. His three steals helped spark his offense as well.

2026 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2413554' first='Kyle' last='Smith'] (Marshalltown) -- 28 points (9-12 FG, 4-6 3P, 6-8 FT), 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals [at Des Moines Lincoln]

Smith was highly efficient against the Railsplitters, dropping 28 points on 75% shooting while showing that he can do so from anywhere on the floor. He shoots it well off the catch, can create looks off the dribble, and is an active, athletic rebounder.

2027 PG [player_tooltip player_id='2396064' first='William' last='Rahe'] (Cedar Rapids Washington) -- 18 points (8-10 FG, 2-3 3P), 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks [vs. Iowa City West]

Rahe at times gets overshadowed on a young but very talented Washington team, but he was great against the Trojans, putting up a double-double and impacting the game in a significant way on both ends of the floor. He's a high IQ guard who loves to get his teammates involved, is great on the glass from his guard spot, and is an impactful defender with his positioning and length.

2026 PG [player_tooltip player_id='1978112' first='Carter' last='Light'] (Davenport Central) -- 28 points (12-22 FG, 2-7 3P, 2-3 FT), 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal [at Hempstead]

The Blue Devils' lead guard stuffed the stat sheet against Hempstead, coming up just two helpers shy of posting a triple-double. He's a good athlete who can score from all three levels, but he's at his best when he's playing downhill and using his speed and handles to put pressure on opposing defenses.
