Coaches for the Cure Standout Guards

This weekend we pulled up to the inaugural Coaches for the Cure event at Southeast Raleigh High School. The event gave a platform to some of the top schools and talent in the Triangle, all while supporting a good cause. Here's a look at some of the guards in attendance who caught my attention.    The top-rated prospect in the state showed why he deserved that ranking, finishing with 25 points in the heated main event. He was a blur with the ball in his hands and got to his spot with an extreme poise that you like to see from your legal guard. He's added a few pounds to his frame and has started to play above the rim in transition and threw down a nice dunk to help seal the deal.     The senior guard from Panther Creek High School is one of the more underrated players who caught my attention. He was a part of the team of team that clinched the spot in the Puma Pro 16 finale and seems to have carried that momentum over to the high school season. He's a gritty lead guard who can run a team and knock down shots while being off ball as well. Defensively he's a pesky defender who gets after the opposing ball handlers with his quick feet and solid lateral quickness.        Before being ejected with two technical fouls midway through the second quarter Kobe was on pace for a big game. He exited the game with 14 of his team's 24 points and a few assists as well. He had a couple of tough finishes at the rim knocked down a handful of jump shots from the perimeter, showing the variety in which he can score the basketball. He checks the boxes for what you look for in a lead guard and is one of the top 2027 point guards in the state.       Not many players play the game with the pace and poise of Calvert from Calvary Day School. He scores effectively from all three levels, is an above average defender who uses his strong frame to stop players from getting to their spots, and is a solid passer when needed. The senior guard finished with 20 plus points including a solid amount of threes from deep.        One of the more underrated senior prospects in the 919 area code checks the boxes of a college level prospect. He blends a solid 6'4 frame with a crafty handle, quick jump shot, and above the rim finishing ability. In the contest we saw him in he finished with 14 points 14 rebounds and 8 assists flirting with a triple double and showcasing his full package along the way. One for coaches to track this season for sure.       In the back and forth battle between Knightdale and South Garner, Jefferson was the guy who came up big to seal the win for his team. He finished with 23 points 6 rebounds 5 assists 2 blocks and had the play of the game late in the fourth where he dropped a defender with a jab step into a pull up jump shot. He's been a nice addition to the squad and has shown himself to be one of the more promising scorers in the area.       The freshman from Knightdale can play whatever role is needed for his team to win a contest. He's a 6'3 guard that defends 1-4 at a solid rate on the HS level and doesn't mind doing the dirty work like rebounding to help his team. He finished with 9 points 7 rebounds and 4 assists showcasing his all around game and why he is considered one of the top freshmen in NC.
