We are only a few weeks away from the first scrimmages in the lead up to the 2025-26 KHSAA basketball season. The excitement level for this year is high. This is the first time in a few years that we haven't had a few teams that are clearly ahead of the pack in the race for the state title. I am going to be previewing all 16 regions by breaking down the top 5 teams and the top 5 college prospects in each region. Being a top 5 college prospect and being a top 5 player in the region are not the same thing. There are a lot of really good high school players in Kentucky who are not necessarily great college prospects. Here's a look at the top 5 teams and prospects in the always competitive fifth region.

Berry recently returned to Kentucky after some time spent in Indiana. He hasn't even been transferred back to our rankings from the Hoosier State. Recently de-committed from Coastal Carolina, Keriawn is the top un-committed player in Kentucky at this point. He's at North Hardin this season.

Another transfer who returned to his bluegrass roots this summer, Gavin is another of the best unsigned seniors in Kentucky. Capable of playing both inside and out, Lightning holds a couple of D1 offers and has a ton of potential as a D1 wing. In the meantime, he'll try to get Caverna to Rupp.

Perhaps the most explosive athlete in Kentucky, James was an immediate impact transfer last season and is a big time player with multiple scholarship offers right now. Green County is going to be a tough cover and Eric is a big reason why. An electric downhill driver, James can heat up in a hurry.

Landon is a mismatch problem for any opposing coach who is trying to stop the reigning 2 time regional champs. Blakey can score the ball inside and out and is a tough cover for anyone. Not afraid to post up, Blakey is a true three level scorer and a top available player in the class.

Modi is, to me, the biggest X factor in the region this season. For the descriptions about guys above being hard to guard, Kouyate has the potential to compete with all of them. Extremely versatile and athletic, Modi is one of the best players in the state who never gets mentioned with the rest of the best.
