The 2029 rankings have debuted as we've spent some time trying to get a grasp on the current freshmen class. This is a group that will certainly experience a ton of change over the course of their high school careers, but from the live scouting we've been able to perform, we've collected 80 names to watch moving forward. For this breakdown article, I'll highlight the first portion of names playing in the BCL/MIAA A Conference.

Williams reclasses into 2029 after entering a short stint last season showing some promising signs as a 2028 forward at Loyola Blakefield. The 6-foot-5 forward boasts a strong, burley frame that he uses to impact the glass and as an effective screener. He'll have an opportunity to contribute in a role for head coach Nick Myles as part of a frontcourt rotation who will stick with the consistent production. Playing alongside dynamic guard such as [player_tooltip player_id='2878470' first='Carter' last='Fisk'], [player_tooltip player_id='2975252' first='TJ' last='Jones'], and Anthony Smith should allow for clean looks around the rim, opportunities to play out of rolls, and pose as a versatile defender. Williams comes in just outside the top-10 at No. 12.

Another freshman at St. Frances is May, a 5-foot-9 lead guard who caught eyes at our Freshman Showcase. He brings command playing on the ball, a Baltimore grittiness that'll benefit him in the long run, and a crafty approach getting downhill acting as both a passer or scorer. Look for May to make quite the splash at the JV level as he looks to earn his keep.

Leach is a smooth, playmaking lead guard who is another name that will shine at the JV level this season. He's capable of getting to the paint and finishing around the basket with either hand. He brings twitch, scoring chops, and toughness on the defensive end. Look for Leach to take on a leadership role despite just being a freshman, as he's been battle tested throughout his middle school career.

Puffenbarger is going to take patience considering the sheer size that he brings as a freshman. He's approaching 6-foot-8 with good length, soft touch around the rim, and the makeup to develop into a true rim presence at either end. As he continues to adjust to his body, become a more fluid athlete, and improve his quickness, Puffenbarger will have a great chance of being one of the better true bigs with size in this class.

As harsh as this sounds, Johnson has benefitted early this season thanks to his big brother, Samartine Hill, being sidelined for Mount Carmel. There was original plans for Johnson to start out on JV, but with his dominance in practice and the needed depth at point guard on the varsity team, he not only earned the roster spot, but is registering meaningful minutes within the rotation. It's been a tremendous opportunity for growth and he's showed his speed on the ball to gain advantages off the dribble. He's a fearless defender who doesn't hesitate to matchup against bigger, physical guards, and has shown early signs of being coachable from the upperclassmen around him. There's little doubt that Johnson will earn a boost down the road when the next update surfaces.
