Prep Hoops Expo: Team 1, 2, 9, 10 Evaluations

The annual Prep Hoops Iowa Expo took place in Des Moines on Saturday afternoon, with approximately 100 players from the sophomore through senior classes taking the floor. Myself, Eliot Clough, and Healey Hill were in attendance throughout the event taking notes on every player in attendance, and we'll have a slew of coverage coming throughout the next week. I was primarily responsible for covering Teams 1, 2, 9, and 10, while Eliot handled Teams 5, 6, and 8, and Healey had Teams 3, 4, and 7. This final article from me touches on the remaining players from the teams I was responsible for that I couldn't quite fit into any of the superlative articles published earlier in the week.    Flores is a strong guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, showing the ability to knock down shots off the catch or create quality looks for his teammates off the dribble. He's a competitive guard who doesn't shy away from contact around the rim.     A competitive guard who doesn't let his lack of size deter him, Samayoa looked to put constant pressure on defenders by attacking the painted area off the dribble. He still needs to work on finishing around the rim, which will come as he gains some more strength and size, but his mentality and assertiveness are fun to watch. He has good footwork that he pairs with handles to create space to get his shot off, and he's a good passer who sees the floor well.     Whitney is a high IQ guard who understands spacing and where to position himself on both ends of the floor. He was constantly looking ahead and finding open teammates in transition and showed that he can play really well in ball screen action in the halfcourt. He's a pass-first guard with great vision.     Lewis didn't have a ton of opportunity with the ball in his hands in his pair of 5-on-5 games, but did a nice job finding other ways to contribute. He was active on the glass. He set good screens to help free up teammates. He kept the ball moving instead of falling into a routine of pounding the leather off the ball. And he did take advantage of his opportunities, knocking down a few shots off the catch after some quality off-ball movement to find open space in the defense. A nice showing from the Coon Rapids product.     The Regina sophomore guard was impressive playing both on and off the ball throughout the afternoon. As a ball-handler, he showed good handles, vision, and feel for the game. As an off-ball guard, he moves well and shoots it at a high clip off the catch, showing a quick release and good form.     Abbott is an intriguing young wing who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. He has good size and length at 6-6, and he used that length effectively on the defensive end. He handles it pretty well for a young wing with his size, keeping the ball low and tight and showing good bend at the hip, some real pliability. He has a smooth, effortless stroke off both the dribble and the catch.     A lefty from Nebraska, Bohnet has a smooth stroke from the 3-point line off both the dribble and the catch. He has good length that he uses well on the defensive end and to compete on the glass on both ends of the floor, and he's a talkative, active defender.
