This weekend I attended the inaugural AZ Hoops JAMboree presented by Marcel Reece at the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa. There were two brackets of 16 each with 32 total teams. I watched 24 teams and here was my rundown of the event.

3rd Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2146267' first='Micah' last='Andrews'] Deer Valley (Pictured)

A quickly improving two-way point guard has the ball on a string. He will drive and kick it to teammate and has that next level court vision. His scoring is coming around more and more with threes off the catch or pull, quick bursts into the lane and will finish in the crowd. He also happened to hit the shot of the weekend with a half court shot at the buzzer to advance in the 1st round.

[player_tooltip player_id='2717233' first='Travon' last='Darby'] Red Mountain

A bigger scoring guard who will facilitate and make plays. He makes tough shots from all levels and he is a good passer. He is very calm with the ball and always seems to make the correct decision. He is a strong rebounder for a guard using his girth and athleticism and Red Mountain goes as he goes.

[player_tooltip player_id='1780585' first='Aidan' last='Lee Delafield'] Centennial

An athletic scoring lead guard who is a very good passer. He is a better passer then he gets credited with lob passes perfectly and drive and kicks. He will score it from all levels with tough layups or dunks on the break, his crossover into a floater is tough to defend and has a polished mid-range jumper. He also collects steals that lead to layups.

[player_tooltip player_id='1875720' first='Sergio' last='Gonzales'] Deer Valley

A tough undersized scoring point guard is always ready for the fight. He will score with threes off the catch, tough and-1's off the glass thru the contact and has some speed in the open court to get out on the break to score. The lefty never backs down and he played even though he is also playing football.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146237' first='Jeremiah' last='Haslerig'] Centennial

A long guard is a natural scorer. He can fill it up with pull-ups from mid-range, inside post footwork, rip and go to the baseline with a quick spin move and catch threes. He is a sneaky good passer and is very long in the passing lanes. He is one of the non-seniors getting heavy playing time and he will be a problem next year too.

[player_tooltip player_id='1555181' first='Adrian' last='Higuera'] Millennium

A scoring point guard who is very unselfish. He has speed with ball in the open court and real court vision. He handles the heavy ball pressure and will find the open teammate. He will score with threes. in and out dribbles and will rise up from mid-range with good elevation. He often makes the extra pass being a good teammate.

[player_tooltip player_id='1676630' first='Kristo' last='Jackson'] San Tan Charter

An athletic downhill two-way player who can defend and score. He is a natural scorer to the basket but he can got hot from the three point line and rattle them in. He will score off the glass with offensive rebound put backs and takes pressure off of other players.

[player_tooltip player_id='1873639' first='Grant' last='Mattingly'] Central

John's brother is a problem to get the team in their offense, score from all levels and defend a couple positions. He will get to the basket with his size, handle and feel and then find a teammate in stride. He will score with put backs off the glass and he will rip thru and score or get fouled often. He can hit the three and his layup package with euros and step thrus is tough to handle.

[player_tooltip player_id='2276223' first='Kingston' last='Montague'] Basha

An important piece to the puzzle can get hot very fast. He can stop on dime and rise up from the three point line or step back on his defender. He will also catch and shoot it and rise up. He is quick to the basket to score or get fouled and will play the passing lanes and collect steals and lay it in. When he is rolling, the Bears are hard to beat.

[player_tooltip player_id='2337276' first='Brig' last='Standage'] Mesa Mountain View

One of the pure shooters in the class with some size from the shooting guard position. His catch and shoot three is pure with perfect ball rotation and comes off of his hands so easily. He will also score with off the ball cuts and his mid-range pull-up is improving. He has quick hands on defense to pester his opponents.

[player_tooltip player_id='2506451' first='Trey' last='Wenk'] Deer Valley (Pictured)

Wenk is another shooter who is a sniper from the three point line. The bigger combo guard can rattle them in one by one. He actually hit four in a row including a clutch one from almost volleyball line range off the pull with no conscience. He makes smart reads and plays the right way.
