This weekend I attended the inaugural AZ Hoops JAMboree presented by Marcel Reece at the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa. There were two brackets of 16 each with 32 total teams. I watched 24 teams and here was my rundown of the event.

1st Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1873684' first='Tyson' last='Crandall'] Highland

A bonafide bucket is scoring point guard who filled it up in every game played. He loves the mid-range pull-up and he has deep three point range. He hits some of the toughest shots all weekend to earn him the 1st team. He makes shots that many players would not even attempt and does it on the norm.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146175' first='LJ' last='Diamond'] Perry

A dynamic scoring point guard who has a burst that is different then most. He had a few needle threaders over the weekend and sees the court with live dribble passes. He rebounds well and then uses his speed to blow past his defenders. He also shoots the three well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1546987' first='Adan' last='Diggs'] Millennium

My personal Co-MVP was a tough guard. He scores it with high level mid-range pull-ups, catch threes, dunks on the break and he is a quick second and third jumper. He is an incredible on-ball defender using his length and strength to keep his opponents in front of him. His mid-range J is a thing of beauty.

[player_tooltip player_id='1150822' first='Cameron' last='Holmes'] Millennium

My personal Co-MVP was the #1 defender at the entire event. His size, length and lateral quickness combined with his strength allows him to defend anyone in the AIA. He scores with tough bully drives to the basket and is so patient keeping his dribble alive amidst heavy pressure and then will burst to the basket. He has deep three point range and he is a good passer. He is also a very good rebounder out of his area.

[player_tooltip player_id='2249943' first='Lleyton' last='Leonard'] Basha (Pictured)

A breakout weekend for the southpaw sophomore. He has a high motor and he is very quick to rebound and goes up in a blink of an eye to score with put backs. He will score with rip thrus, poster dunks in traffic, catch threes in bunches and jab step pull-ups. He is a top notch defender in space and showed major growth with his shooting consistency.

[player_tooltip player_id='1323290' first='Mason' last='Magee'] Basha

The San Francisco commit was the top PG at the event. He controlled the pace to every game. He has such a calming feeling with the ball and his pinpoint passing really changed games as he was dropping dimes all weekend. He slithers his way to the basket with his elite handle and he is a transition star with tough layups and dunks. His burst to the basket is tough to handle and he has deep three point range. Per usual he was ripping pockets every game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1150901' first='John' last='Mattingly'] Central

The Nevada commit is hard to contain from scoring. He gets to his spots almost at will with his tighter handle and changing speeds to get to the basket. He scored the last 11 points to win the first game. He smartly plays off of two-feet and will fall away, step thru or find a teammate. He manages to get passed his opponents with a sneaky burst.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194805' first='Marquice' last='Pless'] Higley

A good sized wing freshman forward gets to his spots to score with a tighter handle. He scores it with downhill takes in traffic (typically straight line drives), aggressive to get to the rim or often gets fouled. He can get hot from the three off the catch and gets on the glass with great timing with offensive rebound put backs.

[player_tooltip player_id='1598402' first='Johnny' last='Rios III'] Centennial

A pure point guard guided the West Valley team to the Chip and won it impressively. He will drive and kick and makes teammates better. He scores with threes off the catch, tear drops in the lane and he has a sharp mid-range pull-up. Look for Rios to take the West Valley deep into the 5A playoffs this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2039513' first='DJ' last='Spencer'] Millennium

A tough wing forward scores it multiple ways. He can post up and go to work, score with rip thrus, hit mid to the three off the catch or pull, step thrus and his spin move is tough to defend. He is also getting more athletic to dunk it in the lane. He is a good defender on the ball and collected a bunch of steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552394' first='Andre' last='Tyler'] Higley

A wildly gifted wing forward can go on his own personal runs. He scores it with high flying dunks, tough layups in traffic, rip thrus, spin moves to the rim and manages to get to the free throw line often. He gets to his spots at will with his handle and size. Defensively he is quick in the passing lanes.
