Heading into the high school season, I would like to highlight some players that I think are underrated or under recruited by colleges. These players are, in my opinion, either being overlooked by colleges at the level they could play for, or don't have enough schools at that level that are aware of the impact they could bring. Here's a look at six wings in the central and western areas of VA that need more love from college coaches.

[player_tooltip player_id='2148730' first='Cooper' last='Konetschni'] | 6'4” SF | Mountain

Konetschni has quietly been one of the top players in the Fredericksburg area over the past few years, and his blend of positional size and all-around skillset makes him a highly productive mismatch that could help a team at the next level. At 6'4” he scores it efficiently in a lot of different ways whether it's posting smaller defenders or getting downhill off the bounce to finish through contact, he can knock down open shots off the catch and get to spots int he midrange, he's a competitor on the glass and on the defensive end, and he has a knack for being around the ball and making plays when his team needs it the most.

[player_tooltip player_id='2561115' first='Jack' last='Castner'] | 6'4” SG | Western Albemarle

Castner was an All State selection as a junior and should be one of the top players in the Charlottesville area this year, and he's somewhat coaches should be highly invested in as he can come in immediately and make an impact with his ability to shoot the basketball at a very high clip. Castner is a dead eye shooter with good range and with his size he doesn't need a ton of room to get his shot off, he works well off the ball and can set his feet and make shots on the move, he doesn't go through long cold streaks, and he has a great understanding of the game and should pick up concepts on both ends quickly.

Jayden A. Johnson | 6'3” SG | Roanoke Catholic

Johnson is one of the elite scorers in the Roanoke area, and the 6'3” off guard's ability to score the ball in so many different ways will translate to the next level as he can fill it up both within the structure of the offense and in isolation situations as well. He reads screens well off the ball and can set his feet and drill it from deep, he'll be a good late shot clock option with his ability to create space and make tough shots off the bounce, he can get downhill and draw and finish through contact, and he's able to get hot quickly and change games once he gets it going.

[player_tooltip player_id='2879990' first='Justin' last='Hunter'] | 6'3” SG | Miller School

Hunter was a big reason for Peninsula Catholic's run to the VISAA D-II state championship game last year, and after transferring to Miller School he'll thrive in their uptempo run-and-gun style that fits him so well. He's a knock down shooter from deep who relocates well and has great form from the feet up and knocks it down consistently, he's strong and athletic allowing him to defend on the perimeter and he's a good rebounder for his position, and he brings a good amount of toughness to his team on both ends of the floor as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2780046' first='Gavin' last='Arthur'] | 6'3” SG | EC Glass

Arthur has quietly become one of the top players in the Lynchburg area leading EC Glass to a very impressive season his junior year, and this summer I saw him in a more open style in AAU and he showed he can flat out fill it up and impact the game on multiple ends. He's got very long arms and plays with a great motor defensively getting deflections and rebounding well, he can knock it down from deep with good consistency, he can handle in transition and get downhill to finish at the rim, and he plays with a great motor on both ends too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2880091' first='Solomon' last='Shifflett'] | 6'3” SG | Turner Ashby

Shifflett is a diamond in the rough in the Harrisonburg area who could be a steal for a program with his raw talent and ability to fill it up that should translate and improve as he continues to develop at the next level. He can play on the ball with his ability to change speeds and create space on step backs and pull-ups in the midrange, he can work off the ball and knock down shots from deep off the catch, and he is a good athlete who will only get stronger and more explosive with college workouts.
