It's common knowledge that players often breakout in their junior season, the "junior jump" as it's referred to by scouts and coaches. With the season approaching rapidly, we're going to take a look at six players in small market areas I expect to take that junior jump and make themselves known as prospects that coaches should keep an eye out for.

[player_tooltip player_id='2815299' first='Ashton' last='Cornett'] | 6'4” SG | Cave Spring

Conrett played a big role for Cave Spring as a sophomore and showed a lot of upside moving forward, and with the departure of some of their key pieces I fully expect him to have a huge junior season for a talented Knights group. The 6'4” wing has great positional size and is a fluid athlete in the open floor and moves well laterally to guard the ball, he can knock down shots from deep off the catch, gets downhill in straight lines and finishes well through traffic too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2898034' first='Langston' last='Cook'] | 5'10” PG | Parry McLeur

Cook might not be the biggest guy or play for the biggest school at McLeur, but he can absolutely cook and was named Second Team All State as a sophomore, and I expect him to make the jump to First Team as a junior. The 5'10” lead guard is lightning quick and super shifty off the bounce with the ability to lose defenders and get to the lane, he can make shots from deep off the catch and off the bounce, he converts tough shots in the midrange and at the rim, and he can make plays for others as well when he gets it going.

[player_tooltip player_id='2348972' first='Colton' last='Davis'] | 6'3” SG | Liberty Christian

Davis is coming off a huge summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2227208' first='Hill' last='City Crash'] and followed it up with a very good fall with LCA, where he showed he's going to be a huge impact for this group with his shot making ability and toughness. He's an absolute driller from beyond the arc with good range and the ability to make shots on the move, he gets hot quickly and can take over games with his ability to ring off shots in succession, and he has a strong build and isn't afraid to get physical or nasty on the defensive end and when hitting the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id='2898053' first='Shane' last='McAfee'] | 6'8” C | Saint Michael

McAfee is coming off an injury from the summer, but this Fall in the CBG Showcases he's shown he'll be a big part of Saint Michael who could have really used a post presence like himself last year in their run to the VISAA D-III semifinals. At 6'8” McAfee has a big frame that isn't easily moved in the paint, he has good footwork and soft touch around the rim making him a good back-to-the-basket option, he can step out to 18 feet and knock down shots, and he is a consummate presence in the paint and on the glass as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2399485' first='Samuel' last='Seaborn'] | 6'5” SG | Western Albemarle

Seaborn is coming off a huge summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2078813' first='VA' last='Premier'] and has looked every bit like he's going to be a problem for a Western Albemarle team that will be a contender for a late March run this year, and his mix of size and shooting ability makes him very intriguing as a prospect. The 6'5” two guard has long arms and a quick release so he doesn't need much time to get his shot off, he has deep range and is highly efficient on catch-and-shoot opportunities, he can attack off the bounce and use his size to finish around the rim, and he has great instincts for the game on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2898042' first='Dereck' last='Batiz Lugo'] | 6'0” SG | Central-Woodstock

Lugo is coming off a Second Team All State selection last year for Central, and with that experience I expect him to be one of the top players in the Winchester area over the next couple of years. The 6'0” guard is a deadly shooter from deep who can make shots on the move with deep range, he can attack off the bounce and has great footwork to get into his pull-up, he uses his IQ defensively to jump passing lanes, and he makes really tough shots look entirely too easy.
