2029 Rankings: Top Combo Guards

The high school season starts up next week and several Freshmen are expected to make major impacts this upcoming season. The early indications are that this 2029 class is extremely good. There are a few players who had D1 scholarship offers before they entered the high school hallways. This list is definitely going to change A TON over the next 4 years. And there are likely multiple players who will finish top ten in the class that no one on the Prep Hoops staff has seen yet. Here's a look at the top combo guards in the inaugural 2029 class rankings. This does not include players who are in the top ten.     Shorter was very impressive at our freshman camp in August and left me interested to see more. The only issue with that is he's likely to be a freshman and JV player this year on a loaded roster at St. X. A tough guard who was living in the paint when I saw him last, D'mario excels at getting past defenders and finishing at the rim. He's also a good defender who can really sit down and guard opposing players. File his name away for the future.     One of the best shooters I have seen in this class so far, Wheeldon is certainly a name to monitor as a potential big time scorer in this 2029 group. Benton has fluid shot mechanics and a quick release. He's got to continue working on tightening up his ball handling and absorbing contact on his drives but that is something that will come with time. For now, Wheeldon should make an impact as a shooting specialist.     Luke is a combo guard but could find himself playing point guard primarily as a freshman, depending on if [player_tooltip player_id='1745593' first='Kade' last='Goodin'] continues with basketball. Regardless, Harbin is capable of filling up a stat sheet. With a good shooting stroke and fearlessness attacking the rim, Luke is a high level scoring guard for his age and needs to continue bulking up to reach his ceiling in the long term. Short term, look for Harbin to add some scoring punch to a Collins roster that needs some.     Gage has been a known name in this class for a few years now. A big guard who is at his best when he's attacking the rim and finishing through contact, Horn is more physical than most kids at this age. The key for Gage will be to continue elevating his overall skill level as other kids catch up to his strength and physicality. Part of a veteran Montgomery County roster this season, look for [player_tooltip player_id='2372715' first='Gage' last='Horn'] to carve himself out a nice role as a freshman and continue to get better over the next 4 years.     Geveden is another guard who had a good day at our freshman showcase. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Noah play much. Probably under-ranked at 41, Geveden could be a big mover in the future as he gets more opportunity to show what he can do. Noah is part of a very young core at Frankfort this season and should get ample opportunity to see the court as the season rolls along. With [player_tooltip player_id='2921335' first='Rajon' last='Floyd'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2890961' first='Cam' last='Crocker'] in the Panthers' 2029 class with Noah, Frankfort is in the mix for best Freshman group in the 11th region.
