Wheeldon really impressed me last summer and fall in multiple viewings but didn’t get a lot of PT at Logan County this past season. Looking to his Sophomore year, Benton could average double figures for the Cougars. A good shooter and hard worker, Wheeldon could be a rising star in the 4th region.

One of the best shooters I have seen in this class so far, Wheeldon is certainly a name to monitor as a potential big time scorer in this 2029 group. Benton has fluid shot mechanics and a quick release. He’s got to continue working on tightening up his ball handling and absorbing contact on his drives but that is something that will come with time. For now, Wheeldon should make an impact as a shooting specialist.

Benton has developed a reliable floater that makes him a constant threat in the paint, even against taller defenders. With soft touch and great body control, he’s able to release the shot over shot-blockers before they can contest. Benton often uses the floater when driving into traffic, giving him a versatile option that complements his finishing at the rim. 

Benton was a major stock riser for me at this event. Throughout the day he impressed me with his scoring ability. At 6’2 he was a mismatch problem the entire day, he was able to get to his spot against smaller defenders and it was a bucket every time when he got here. He caught fire in the second 5 on 5 game where he three straight 3s. I was also impressed with how he was able to play at his own pace. As he develops athletically and grows, he will become a major problem for anyone matched up with Logan County.

Benton had some of the most impressive shot making at camp last Saturday. There was a stretch where I saw him hit 3-4 shots in a couple of minutes and not a single one touched the rim. He’s also got good size and could possibly stretch out to be a big wing in the near future. He’s got to take some pride in his defense but that can all be fixed. For now, Wheeldon is already looking like an elite shooter.
