Princeton Tigers Open Gym Notebook:

With the class of 2025 graduating with 42 wins in the last two seasons, the cupboard certainly isn't bare for Coach Lamar Brown. Speaking with Coach Brown, he believes this team has the potential to be better offensively than last year's. The question this season is how will they be defensively. They have the size, length, and versatility as well as the talent. With a challenging schedule that will prepare them for tournament time, the Tigers will be one of the favorites to represent the South in Indianapolis in March. Here is breakdown of the talented roster of the Princeton Tigers:   KEY RETURNERS:    Edwin is a versatile forward that impacts the game on both ends of the floor. The 6'7” Indiana Junior All-Star is a point forward on the offensive end that excels at playmaking for others. Uses his size to his advantage really well. Plays inside-out unselfishly. Can really score from the midrange and exploits mismatches down low. Capable shooter from the outside, but doesn't force it. Defensively he can guard any position on the floor. He's an active shot blocker that is able to keep shots inbounds to turn into fast breaks.   2024-2025 Season Stats: 16.7 points | 7.6 rebounds | 3.7 assists | 1.9 steals | 2.7 blocks     Grown to 6'2”, Newson is the head of the snake defensively for the Princeton Tigers. He's a a scrappy defensive minded guard that plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor. Active hands and quick feet on the defensive end where he pressures full court relentlessly. He will come into this season as arguably the best on ball defender in the area, but his offense is catching up at a rapid pace. Hes a shifty guard that thrives on paint touches. Has the ability to finish at the basket with either hand, and really good at playing off two feet when he gets in the lane. As a passer, he pushes the ball ahead really well and operates the pick and roll under control with the skill set to make any pass on the floor.   2024-2025 Season Stats: 7.9 points | 3.1 rebounds | 2.3 assists | 1.1 steals     Wirey athlete that can shoot the cover off the ball. Long and rangy athlete that has the skill offensively to score it all over the floor. Really good running off screens knowing how to get open. Does a good on the catch being on balance. Shoots an effortless shot with a quick trigger and deep range. His defense is improving. It's all mindset with him. He has all the tools to be an impact defender for the Tigers, and Coach Brown is trying to bring it out of him.   2024-2025 Season Stats: 4.7 points | 1.3 rebounds | 48% 3FG    TRANSFERS:    Skilled stretch-four that has the ability to score inside and out. Knockdown shooter with deep range balances his outside shooting ability with getting downhill where he can stop and rise up over defenders or use his size to score down low through contact. Impressive court vision for his size. He made some eye popping passes during the open gym scrimmage that makes me believe that in special circumstances he will be able to initiate some offense and have playmaking role within the offense. Drew is another piece where the defensive end needs to become more of a priority. With his size he should be able to be a fantastic rebounder on the defensive end that will lead to him pushing the break and facilitating to open teammates.   2024-2025 Season Stats (Moseley HS, FL): 7 points | 2.7 rebounds     One of the top ranked guards in the 2028 Class in the Prep Hoops Rankings, Quintyn joins the Tigers after a successful freshman season at Decatur Central. A bouncy 6'1” guard that can play both guard spots. He's a confident offensive playmaker for himself and others. Shoots an effortless ball with deep range and has a deep bag getting into the lane where he can finish in a variety of different ways. Not available at open gym due to football, but he is going to be a major contributor for the Princeton program for the next three years.   2024-2025 Season Stats (Decatur Central): 12 points | 2 rebounds | 2.2 assists | 1.6 steals     Move in from Ohio that played really well in the open gym scrimmages. Steady lead guard that plays with a high motor. Really guards defensively with active hands. Turn of possession he sprints the floor and gets set in his spot. Good spot up shooter that also showed he can get in the lane and finish in the lane. Unsure what his role will be for the varsity this season but has the potential to be a nice depth piece.   2024-2025 Season Stats: N/A    NEW ADDITIONS:    Gavin is an athletic wing that is only scratching the surface of his potential. Active defender and rebounder that plays with a high motor. Offensively he showed potential as a spot up shooter. Smooth, high release with good elevation. Intriguing depth piece that will get his playing time as a guy that can defend, rebound, and be a finisher offensively.     Bently is another potential depth piece that will earn his playing time as a defender. Physical frame that battles on both ends. Has the potential to be a good screen setter. He plays with energy and runs the floor hard. He showed good athleticism in the open gym drills.
