Defensive minded floor general out of Princeton that continues to get better every time I see him. Lengthy guard that impacts winning on both ends of the floor. Competes defensively and is considered one of the best on-ball defenders in the area due to his length and aggressiveness pressuring the ball. Offensively he continues to become more versatile on the offensive end. Showed improvement in his court vision. Continues to improve as an outside shooter as well as improving his athleticism.

Grown to 6’2”, Newson is the head of the snake defensively for the Princeton Tigers. He’s a a scrappy defensive minded guard that plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor. Active hands and quick feet on the defensive end where he pressures full court relentlessly. He will come into this season as arguably the best on ball defender in the area, but his offense is catching up at a rapid pace. Hes a shifty guard that thrives on paint touches. Has the ability to finish at the basket with either hand, and really good at playing off two feet when he gets in the lane. As a passer, he pushes the ball ahead really well and operates the pick and roll under control with the skill set to make any pass on the floor.

Coming off of a strong junior season for a Class 3A Top 10 Princeton Community High School team, Newson started to turn some heads this spring and summer on the grassroots circuit. The 6’2″-6’3″ two-way guard really p OPS as a versatile and disruptive defender. He uses his length and athleticism well on the perimeter to play in the passing lanes and is a pesky on-ball defender as well. Offensively, Newson is an efficient scorer with some explosiveness when getting downhill to his right hand. Look for him to step into a bigger offensive role in the backcourt as a senior and emerge as a solid under-the-radar small college prospect.

Part of an intriguing pool of talent down at Princeton High School this season, Newson is a 6’0″ junior guard with some impressive athletic tools. He was able to run the floor in transition and attack the basket downhill off of the throw ahead. In the half court, he was an effective straight line driver, off-ball slasher, and crashed the offensive glass hard. His quick burst and athleticism made him disruptive on the defensive end of the floor as well.
