The NEPSAC is one of the most stacked high school basketball leagues in the country. There are loads of college basketball players at all levels and an incredible amount of depth on these rosters, including but not limited to post grads. That's why we rarely see underclassmen making a big impact.

With that being said, here are some sophomore guards that'll make major waves this season.

Perri is one of the most skilled players in his class and will run the show for Roxbury Latin this season. The 6-foot-1 point guard has the ball on a string and handles full court pressure quite comfortably, but he also can attack the rim effectively with his mix of quickness, deception and change of speed. Perri's superpower is probably his three point shooting, though; he gets elevation on his shot from three and is a dead eye shooter with tons of range. He has a legitimate chance to be Roxbury Latin's best player this year, which is obviously very impressive for a sophomore. Kid is a competitor on both ends, too.

Balducci is an electric offensive player who is going to turn heads this season for Loomis Chaffee. The 6-foot guard might be undersized, but he's unbelievably quick and skilled and can score in major bunches from anywhere on the court. He can get to the rim and finish athletically with both hands, he can stroke it from three, and he can consistently get to his spots in the mid range and elevate for easy pull up jumpers over the defense. Simply put, nobody can stay in front of Balducci and stop him from getting his shot off, which I imagine he'll do a lot of this season. He is a major breakout candidate.

Cantave is part of a talented young core at St. George's, but he's ready to make an impact right now as a sophomore. The 6-foot-1 point guard is incredibly athletic with the ball in his hands and finishes quite well at the hoop once he gets there. The southpaw has awesome touch high off the glass with his left hand but also can convert with his right, even with some contact. Cantave's also able to hit the outside shot and is electric on the fastbreak with a head of steam. He's ready to play at the prep school level right now, and I think he's going to have a significant role for St. George's this season.

Medina is an absolute freak athlete who's only 5-foot-10 but gets above the rim for dunks. Yes, you read that correctly. He uses major quickness and a deep bag of skills to burst by defenders and then supreme athleticism to elevate in the lane and finish with contact. He also has a really nice looking shot and is always on balance when it comes to getting to his spots on the floor. I would guess Medina will be a starter for Concord Academy this season and will probably be one of their main creators offensively as both a scorer and facilitator. Bright future ahead for him.

Trimboli played a role on last year's King School squad, but my guess would be that he's one of their leading scorers this season and really breaks out. The 6-foot guard showed flashes of athleticism last season, but he's going to be a lot more explosive this year and will probably show improved strength and hang time at the rim. The shooting, which was quite effective for him as a freshman, will likely still be a cornerstone of his offensive game and will allow him to be lethal from all three levels this season. Trimboli will lead King School with his brother, AJ.

The NEPSAC is one of the most stacked high school basketball leagues in the country. There are loads of college basketball players at all levels and an incredible amount of depth on these rosters, including but not limited to post grads. That's why we rarely see underclassmen making a big impact.
