Sophomore ID Camp: Knockdown Shooters

At the Prep Hoops Sophomore ID Camp, a select group of players made defenses pay every time they were left open. With smooth mechanics and the confidence to step into shots, these 2028 sharpshooters stretched the floor and forced opponents to account for them at all times. Whether spotting up or firing off the dribble, each proved they can change a game with their range.    Morrison is an elite shooter with a high, quick release that makes his jumper tough to contest. He plays with poise and IQ, scoring efficiently from all three levels. Beyond his perimeter game, he displayed great body control to create separation and finish when attacking the rim.     Newby is a fundamentally sound guard who rarely makes mistakes but consistently leaves a big imprint on the game. He takes what defenses give him; if defenders sag off, he'll make them pay from behind the arc. In addition to his shooting ability, he plays with great balance, finishing effectively with either hand. His tight ball control stood out, allowing him to attack defenses and make smart decisions under pressure.     Reed fits the mold of a true 3-and-D guard. He consistently knocked down catch and shoot threes, spacing the floor for his teammates, while also standing out as a relentless hustle player. His defensive activity was everywhere, closing gaps, contesting shots, and making plays without needing the ball in his hands to be effective.     Mattingly is a versatile forward who can impact the game on both ends. He's a confident shooter with a smooth stroke, capable of stretching the floor, while also showing polished footwork around the rim to outsmart defenders. Defensively, he stands out as a strong on-ball presence and has the versatility to guard all five positions effectively.     Lopez is a knockdown lefty shooter who consistently makes defenses pay from beyond the arc. He's more than just a perimeter threat though, showing the ability to attack closeouts and finish at the rim with a soft touch.
