On Saturday and Sunday (8/9 - 8/10), I attended MIT's prospect camp at their hoops facility in Cambridge, MA. There were about 150 players and 10+ teams to watch, but I think I got a solid read on the talent there (as solid as is possible in 2 days). However, I'm never able to see every single player, so it's always possible that great talent slips through the cracks.

With that being said, below is my MIT prospect camp first team.

Ezugha traveled all the way from Nevada and was a total energizer bunny. The 6-foot-5 wing was absolutely impossible to stop on the offensive boards; it seemed like he came up with 25% of the shots his team missed, and he was able to finish a very high percentage of them with nice touch and craft around the hoop. He also showcased some outside shooting ability and a bit of creation off the dribble when he had some space to operate. Defensively, he provided phenomenal rim protection for his size but also has the versatility to guard basically anybody on the perimeter. I bet Ezugha could get some scholarship looks if he hasn't already. If not, he'll be an awesome high level D3 do-it-all-guy.

Clanton might've been the most intriguing prospect at MIT camp. The 6-foot-5 forward has some pretty freaky athletic abilities and threw down some really impressive dunks in transition throughout the weekend. He uses his upper body strength to completely discard defenders on his way to the hoop, and his large hands allow him to manipulate the ball in really effective ways. If he can improve his feel -- when to attack vs. when to make the extra pass, for example -- and become a better shooter, I don't see why D1 schools wouldn't be interested. Right now, he's probably a D2 level player or perhaps incredibly high level D3.

Mounsey first wow'd me with his upper body strength and above the rim athleticism after a crazy put back dunk and some gazelle-like rim runs. But the more I watched him, the more his all-around scoring game impressed me; he does an excellent job getting to two feet in the paint and surprisingly has really nice touch on his mid range shots. He also has solid passing vision and showed flashes of really impressive playmaking and ball-mover capabilities. Oh, and he defends anyone while doing all the little things and competing his behind off. Mounsey will attend Phelps this upcoming season and I could very much see scholarship level schools getting involved.

I really enjoyed watching Labagh play and think he can be a great player for lots of super high level D3's. The lefty guard has great feel and handle and is able to puncture the paint at will with his quickness and misdirection moves. Once he gets there, he makes fundamentally sound decisions and clearly doesn't care about his stats based on how willing he is to make the simple pass. He was also one of the better conditioned athletes I saw at MIT, consistently running the floor and looking for quick outlets into early transition opportunities. He plays with awesome pace and I wouldn't be surprised to see him under-recruited.

Campbell was one of the best athletes at MIT and used his physicality and explosiveness in all the right ways. He attacked the boards with reckless abandon and did an excellent job tracking the ball off the rim, which made him one of the harder-to-box-out guys at camp. He also showcased some impressive above-the-rim athleticism in transition and some really solid instincts in the passing lanes defensively. He could be an excellent forward at the D3 or potentially scholarship level, but an improved shooting stroke would really help him there.
