The Section 7 Boys Qualifiers were held at the Arizona Athletic Grounds June 17th-18th. In order to advance to the big weekend teams must win their brackets going 4-0 in the two days. Below are players I had the opportunity to watch in person who were the most consistent shooters/scorers at the qualifiers.

Ortiz is getting ready to have a breakout junior season where I expect him to land his name on some recruiting boards. He had a great showing against Skyline. Ortiz and the Titans found themselves down by double digits pretty quickly. Then he got hot. leading a 20-3 run Ortiz went 6/8 shooting scoring 17 in the second half. He finished the game with 22 points. Very smooth and quick release. One of the top mid range shooters at the event. A true three level scorer. Great pump fake and first step to blow by defenders and finishes well above the rim.

Teasley is always one of my favorite prospects to watch. He plays the game the right way. A tough two way player that makes good things happen on both sides of the ball. Another player ready to breakout. Played limited varsity minutes as a freshmen and has now found himself in a starting role for the Cougars. Very quick feet and skilled dribbler can get to the paint and finish with a nice floater. Excellent shooter off the pass went 3/3 from deep in my viewing. Plays well off both feet can create and can make plays through contact. Big sophomore year ahead for Teasley.

The Bobcats are a tough team. One of the teams that won their brackets and moved on to the big weekend. Del Rio was vital for the Bobcats. Game one saw him go 4/6 from deep finishing with 16 points and in the game to decide whether they move on or not he went 7/11 from the field with 15 points. Very good at creating scoring opportunities for himself and can knock it down at a high percentage of the dribble. Finished and a very clutch and tough basket through contact that helped in a much needed momentum shift. Sees the floor really well and moves and creates a way from the ball. High IQ player and shooter.

Sanchez came out hot to start the game for Eastmark. Quickly going 3/3 from behind the arc within the first few minutes of the game. A confident shooter who knows his spots and can create and get to those spots. Sees the floor well and got his teammates involved early picking up a few assists. Eastmark graduated their leading scorer but if Sanchez can play like this consistently he can be their guy the next few years.

McManaway was one of the top two scoring performances in the two days of the qualifier. In a battle against the Cienega Bobcats McManaway couldn't be stopped from behind the arc. He finished with 7/10 from behind the arc. 70% from three and it didn't matter if he had a hand in his face or not the shots were falling. Josh was one of the most consistent shooters from behind the arc. His shot and release are next level. Has a tremendous feel for the game.

Barrett had the best overall performance of the qualifiers. He did everything to put his team in a chance to move on. In their game against Salpointe, Barrett finished with 36 points while knocking down seven three pointers. He shot 57% from the field and couldn't be stopped. Was also one the the top two way players in attendance. Another true three level scorer who can get it done from just about anywhere. One of the prospects who helped his stock rise and should be on receiving end of attention from many programs this season.
