Admittedly, this one will sting for awhile. [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] 14u had a 20-point lead on Houston Hoops 14u before a tenacious comeback led to a heartbreaking 66-62 loss in the championship game. However, this group still has a lot to be proud of after an outstanding spring and summer. Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground for Sunday afternoon's championship contest at the Riverview Park Activities Center in North Augusta, South Carolina.

Generally speaking, we don't time watching incoming freshmen prospects until our annual Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase in late August. Aside from seeing some of the top freshmen play at the varsity level in June, the Freshman Showcase is our first real look at the class. However, with the success of this team, we wanted to make it a point to see them some while they were down here in Augusta/North Augusta.

We first went over to the Augusta Convention Center on Saturday evening to watch them complete a comeback of their own in a 58-45 win over Vegas Elite. Then, unfortunately, they were on the other side of a big run in Sunday's championship game.

This [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] 14u team features many young prospects that will make an instant impact at the varsity level. At the Charlie Hughes Showcase we already had the opportunity to watch guys like [player_tooltip player_id='2888227' first='Karson' last='Stoudemire'] (New Albany H.S. 2029) and Will Tonagel (Oak Hill H.S. 2029) excel with their respective teams. Those two were consistently among the standouts for [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] as well. Tonagel, a left-handed guard, made eight three-point shots combined in the two games we watched while Stoudemire finished with 15 points and 8 rebonds and 9 points and 8 rebounds in the two games. He is so physically and athletically dominant when matched up with his peers.

Ryan Gold (Cathedral H.S. 2029) and [player_tooltip player_id='2385390' first='Max' last='Hopkins'] (Fishers H.S. 2029) are two other guys who got varsity rotation minutes in June for two of the best programs in the state. Gold is a dynamic guard that creates very well off of of the dribble and puts pressure on the defensive as a capable perimeter shot-maker as well. He also was consistently involved in the rebounding efforts from the perimeter. As for Hopkins, the 6'7" forward certainly looks the part entering his high school career. He is a strong rebounder and provides some inside-outside offensive skill.

Another consistent star for [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] 14u was [player_tooltip player_id='2890898' first='Jayden' last='Davis'] from Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. There simply aren't many players his age while his athletic and physical tools. Davis bullies his peers off of the bounce, in transition, and on the boards. He finished with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in the championship game against Houston Hoops. It will be fun to follow his career across the border over in Ohio.

This group had their sights set on bringing home the title, but they were still incredibly fun to watch on this trip. The future is bright for every young prospect on [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] 14u's roster.
