It's been wild in 16u! We give you the details!

The Wild Wild 16u Division

Just about everybody was involved in Minnesota 16u division but a lot has happened. Let's run through everything!

(1) [program_tooltip program_id='2455790' first='Howard' last='Pulley'] dropped out a few days before the event because of illness so that is why you saw them listed and then not listed.

(3) Hoop Habits was beaten in the quarters by (11) [program_tooltip program_id='2075685' first='Minnesota' last='Select'] Fuerte

(4) [program_tooltip program_id='2821775' first='Buffalo' last='Legacy'] was beaten by (7) Northern Titans Stone in the quarters

(5) [program_tooltip program_id='2075672' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] Zurn was beaten in round one by Minneapolis Central

(8) [program_tooltip program_id='2075672' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] Goring was beaten in round one by EAT.

(9) Minnesota Comets Elite was beaten in the second round by (16) Minnesota Gold.

(10) [program_tooltip program_id='2075674' first='Minnesota' last='Heat'] VGR was beaten in the second by (15) Team GA.

(15) Team GA was beaten in the quarters by Minneapolis Central.

So...... the quarterfinals are (11) [program_tooltip program_id='2075685' first='Minnesota' last='Select'] Fuerte vs (16) Minnesota Gold and Minneapolis Central vs (7) Northern Titans Stone and NOBODY was expecting that.

The Richfield Select Duo

Hoop Habits entered last night's quarterfinal with [program_tooltip program_id='2075685' first='Minnesota' last='Select'] with only one loss on the season, and now they have two.

The reason? The same reason Richfield High School was better than expected this year... [player_tooltip player_id='2412724' first='Dre' last='Collins'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2140700' first='Tyrece' last='Hagler'].

Richfield was preseason number nine last year on the shoulders of CJ Armstrong. What we didn't know was that Class AAA was going to be much better than expected with it's second level teams, and what we didn't expect was that Richfield was going to keep pace because they had more depth than expected.

Collins and Hagler averaged 17 points and 15 points a game respectively as sophomores. And then last night Collins was attacking Hoop Habits with a ferocious aggression to the rim and no Double HH player was willing to consistently get in his path. He had 17 points on seven of eight shooting and then Hagler had a 13 point, 11 rebound double-double for Select as well.

Throw in the excellent 14 point game from [player_tooltip player_id='1956268' first='Shay' last='Jackson'] and the four for four scoring game from [player_tooltip player_id='2140684' first='Preston' last='Crider'] and Select just had more players doing more to win.

New Name to Know: Dre Frierson-Hollie

GET was coming at Heat GVR with a constant roll of basket attacks from one guy: 6'4 CDH forward 2027 Dre Frierson-Hollie.

He is likely a new name to you because he was deeper on the CDH bench last year but that could change quickly if he keeps going at the rim with this level of down hill attack, this level of aggressive rebounding and this level of explosive finishing.

With 21 points on 9 of 15 shooting and eight rebounds Willis dominated the game helping GET get a 60-40 win over the Heat.

Quick Hitters

[player_tooltip player_id='2126458' first='Luke' last='Schroeder']. I feel like I like him as a prospect better every time I view him play. Yesterday Luke seemed a little taller, a little more aggressive to the rim, the dunk caught my attention, and he's always had a big time stroke. As he continues to grow I feel like his prospect status continues to rise. Shakopee talent playing with Hoop Habits.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126460' first='Donte' last='Branch'] of GET was one of the better shooters I saw yesterday hitting five threes in a game.

Aaron Howard Jr of GET gave his team a third option scoring 15 points with six boards.

I would say more about [player_tooltip player_id='2404942' first='King' last='James'] but he's got about three video guys at every game he plays hoping to catch his dunk films. Just check him out online, or watch him today as he has his team in the final four!
