The introduction of the Scholastic Live Periods has become a crucial element of modern day recruiting and here in the DMV there is no shortage of events (6 total) for college coaches to attend to find the next wave of talent. We thought it would be important to highlight a few prospects that our scouts think are primed for a breakout performance that should net some college interest. Let's dig into some of the junior guards that we think are primed for a breakout performance this weekend!

-Nelson had a solid sophomore season with STA and looks geared up for a big year with the Lions coming on the Heels of 6 players graduating from their rotation. Nelson should start and likely won't leave the floor often as the team's best shooter and play-maker. He sees the floor really well and is able to get into his shot or pass the dribble smoothly with either hand. Love that he can be successful on or off the ball as a shooter that doesn't need much space to get a shot off. Expect a few breakout scoring performances with play-making flashes sprinkled in that should entice college coaches to get involved with the rising junior.

-Really excited to see what Logan looks like in new threads for a new coach at Riverdale Baptist. His reclassification to the 2027 class should boost his stock as a scoring guard that doesn't need a ball screen to get a clean look. Logan can get downhill going either direction, stops on a dime, and squares up with perfect form to sink jumpshots from all over the floor. Love how he uses his size to create space and score over or around defenders around the basket. If he can continue to improve his body, add more back foot burst, and prove that he can really shoot it from 3-- I expect his recruitment to take off.

-Ross transfers into the Highland School and figures to be a big piece for them moving forward. Ross has great positional size, can put it on the floor, and can fill it up in bunches. He can shoot it with range but takes the right shot, turning down good shots to find great ones and isn't hesitant to make the one-more pass. With his length and fluid movement skills, he also possesses some good upside on the defensive end of the floor as a capable 3+D wing defender. With a lot of moving parts coming into a Highland group that graduated a ton of talent, he should be primed for a big junior season.

-Arguably the best public school basketball player in the area, Scott is turning heads as a super quick scoring point guard that understands angles and timing in ball screen situations. His ability to shift in pace makes him really hard to stay in front of, and he is starting to execute more and more passing reads off the bounce as a dynamic play-maker. He finishes well with either hand around the basket, hits touch shots using difficult spots on the backboard, and is a capable C+S sniper from beyond the arc. With quick reflexes and hands, he can be really disruptive defensively both on and off the ball. Probably will be the best prospect in attendance at MBCA.

Lee is comfortable running the point and has the vision/passing needed to be successful at the point but can also hit shots to stretch the floor as an off-ball guard as well.
-A physical downhill driving guard, Dunbar should turn some heads with a nice set of opponents at DC Live. Dunbar uses his size well to carve out space on drives to the basket and uses a quick vertical leap to finish emphatically above the rim. Love his scoring bag from 18' and in from the top of the key or from the wings as he usually makes the right decision of how to attack the basket. His jumper has gotten more consistent and he has really worked on his handle to take advantage of his burst with the basketball in his hands. Expect him to stand out this weekend in DC.
