DMV Live Fri Standouts- W/Fs

12p 8r 2b 1s vs Hargrave   -Saw some encouraging flashes from Thet as a big that has a nice skill base. He can put it on the floor well enough to complete drives to the rim from outside of the key, hit a nice pull-up from the elbow, and served as a great roll/lob target in this one in a nice win for Springdale. His presence as a defender led to two blocked shots while he altered at least 5 more, serving as an effective deterrent for drivers on the opposing team.      18p 11r 2a 1b 2s vs Clinton Grace   -Mancho played simple but effective basketball in a nice win over CG, winning offensive rebounds and sticking rebounds because he was in the right place at the right time. Liked his decision-making in the low post, feeling where his opponent was shading him and countering to spin and finish with a hook shot in the other direction. Liked his activity in the back of a diamond press that really opened up the game for OLMC, anticipating passes well and communicating at a high level on the back line.      20p 11r 1b 1s vs Ryken   -Kacerauskas is a really inside-out prospect and has impressed our scouts as both a shooter in some games and an inside scoring presence in others. He was extremely effective in the paint in this one, using his defender's momentum against them well to score around the rim using a series of up fakes, spin moves, pivots, and euro steps. His hands are like magnets for the basketball around the rim and he usually makes the right decision to either score or kick out to a teammate if he's surrounded by too many defenders. If he can quicken his footspeed and his pace off the bounce, his upside as a prospect will only continue to balloon.      8p 6r in 14 mins   -Great frame and body, soft touch in the key. Battled well for rebounds and knew where the ball was coming off, great set of hands. Thought he had a nice balance of footwork and finishing moves as well as athleticism to guard his yard well on the defensive end of the floor.      13p 9r 1a 1b 5s vs Highland   -Really impacted the game at both ends of the floor with his physicality and energy as the only front court player for O'Connell. Edwards showed off some improved skill with a spin move lay off glass in transition, broke his defender down to cross over and finish with the left at the rim, and showed great touch on several cutbacks around the basket. His length, size, and athleticism allows him to be a whirling dervish of activity that serves as a disruptive wing defender on one end and a productive slasher on the other.      17p 5r 2a 4b 7/16 FG vs SFA   -Siaca-Bey was everywhere defensively in a good matchup with the BCL's St France Academy. The rising senior collected 4 blocks—3 of which were on the ball— while altering several more shots around the rim without fouling. Liked his patience around the basket, utilizing his pivot and up fakes to get his defender in the air before laying the ball up. The skillset continues to improve as he is taking forwards off the bounce more consistently to get to the rim and to the FT line.      7p 5r 1b in 12 mins vs Davidson Day   -Really liked his minutes for O'Connell as a play-making wing that can impact the game in a variety of ways. He laced an open three from above the break, recovered well to block a shot from behind before initiating a fastbreak, and attacked the glass from the weak side well to come up with some pesky rebounds. He does a little bit of everything well and understands how to impact the game as an off-ball mover/screener to find a good look for his team. Figures to have a solid role with a very young O'Connell group.     30p 8r 2a 1b vs McNamara   -Thought Pendergrass bounced back well from a hand injury to turn in a productive offensive performance in a matchup with one of the DMV's most talented groups in McNamara. Pendergrass hit shots off of movement, put his defender on his back before hitting turnarounds at the elbows, and really hit the glass heavy to clean up misses around the basket for a few easy buckets. The timing and rebounding instincts are encouraging for his floor as an offensive prospect on nights when the shot isn't falling at a high clip.      23p 10r 1a 1b 1s vs McNamara   -Thought that Carter had some really nice flashes as a wing prospect that can rebound the basketball, guard multiple spots, get to the rim, and hit perimeter jumpers. With great positional size and athletic tools, Carter's offensive rebounding and shot-making was a big part of Hargrave's late run that cut the lead to two baskets. Want to see more consistency in his ball-handling to enable him to see the floor better while on the move and deliver some passes to take advantage of his scoring gravity— but there is a really intriguing blend of talents here to track.
