Prep Hoops Indiana Regional Preview – Class 3A North

There were 403 teams that started the journey to Gainbridge Fieldhouse last week. Then, on Saturday, we crowned 64 Sectional Champions. We will cut that field in half once again this coming Saturday in the Regional round. As always, Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground coverage throughout Sectional week and will be hitting a handful of different gyms for Regional action as well. As we did prior to Sectional week, we will spend this week previewing the 32 Regional matchups that will be played on Saturday, March 15th. Here is our preview of the four Regionals that make up the Class 3A North.   <a href="https://prephoops.com/2025/03/prep-hoops-indiana-regional-preview-class-1a-north-2/">1A North</a>   <a href="https://prephoops.com/2025/03/prep-hoops-indiana-regional-preview-class-1a-south-2/">1A South</a>   <a href="https://prephoops.com/2025/03/prep-hoops-indiana-regional-preview-class-2a-north-2/">2A North</a>   <a href="https://prephoops.com/2025/03/prep-hoops-indiana-regional-preview-class-2a-south-2/">2A South</a>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Matchups </h2>   South Bend Washington Regional: South Bend St. Joseph vs. Columbia City   Michigan City Regional: East Chicago Central vs. Hanover Central   Lapel Regional: Maconaquah vs. Marion   New Castle Regional: Delta vs. Fort Wayne Blackhawk     <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Best Regional</h2>   Class 3A North on paper is a little more clear cut as far as true favorites but I think from a competitive standpoint, going to go with the South Bend Washington Regional between South Bend St. Joseph and Columbia City. While SBSJ is viewed as the favorite to come out of the North for Class 3A, I think the Columbia City Eagles can be easily viewed as the dark horse in this Regional group. Both teams were pretty battle-tested for the most part heading into this matchup with Columbia City getting wins over NorthWood, Fairfield, and Tippecanoe Valley to win Sectional 20 while SBSJ won Sectional 19 going through South Bend Washington, Mishawaka Marian, and Culver Academy. The Huskies have the talent advantage here no question with [player_tooltip player_id='1297002' first='Chase' last='Konieczny'], [player_tooltip player_id='2485799' first='Brashaun' last='Woods'], Ethan Roeman, [player_tooltip player_id='2024513' first='Nick' last='Shrewsberry'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2140359' first='Elijah' last='King'] so guys like Columbia City's [player_tooltip player_id='2471421' first='Owen' last='Marshall'] will have their hands full. I fully expect this to be a very competitive matchup.     <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Under-the-Radar Regional</h2>   It seems like you could pick any of the remaining three Regional matchups to be viewed as under-the-radar, but we will go with Delta vs. Fort Wayne Blackhawk at New Castle. It's is just rinse and repeat with these programs as they just know how to make deep runs when it comes to the state tournament. Blackhawk Christian made the jump to Class 3A this season and showed no signs of any struggle hardly easily going through Concordia, East nobles, and Leo to win Sectional 21. Delta has been as consistent as any team in Class 3A over the recent years and once again got another Sectional crown going over Yorktown and New Castle in the process. There is not question that they star here is going to be Wright State signee and Blackhawk senior forward Kellen Picket so Delta will have to find a way to slow him down if possible.
