First Team

Class 1A Player of the Year: 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1174816' first='Toryn' last='Severson'] (Madrid)
Stats: 23.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.1 steals, 1.0 blocks, 54.1 FG%, 40.5 3P%, 88.5 FT%

Severson was the best two-way player in the class this year, leading the Tigers to an undefeated season and a state title, the school's first. His ability to take over the game on either end of the floor was special. Any time Madrid really needed a bucket, Severson was going to be able to go out and get it. With his combination of size, length, and shotmaking, he was impossible for teams to defend at this level. He'll play his college ball at Waldorf.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1484418' first='Mason' last='Bechen'] (North Linn)
Stats: 30.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 3.2 steals, 56.2 FG%, 35.2 3P%, 77.8 FT%

Bechen was unstoppable all year for the Lynx, averaging 30 points a game despite being the focal point of opposing game plans on a nightly basis. He faced several different junk defensive looks and was still able to produce in a huge way, posting great efficiency numbers and some truly massive scoring games while leading the Lynx back to the state tournament for the ninth straight year.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1759939' first='Spencer' last='Roeder'] (Marquette Catholic)
Stats: 20.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.1 steals, 51.3 FG%, 36.3 3P%, 74.3 FT%

For the second straight year, Roeder was the best player on the team that finished as a runner-up in Class 1A. A versatile 6-4/6-5 wing who can score inside and out, his ability to create quality looks for his teammates really took another step forward this year, and that was a major factor in how successful the Defenders were this season.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1759937' first='Collin' last='Homan'] (St. Mary's, Remsen)
Stats: 14.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.4 blocks, 50.4 FG%, 36.8 3P%

There were plenty of other players in the class who put up bigger numbers than Homan did this season, but his impact on the game goes well beyond what is seen just in the box score. He was the anchor for the best defensive team in the class, protecting the paint and providing some toughness and athleticism. He scores inside and out and is a solid rebounder.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1907683' first='Hunter' last='Horn'] (St. Edmond)
Stats: 23.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals, 58.7 FG%, 38.1 3P%, 74.9 FT%

Horn put up huge numbers all year for the Gaels, helping lead them to the semifinals. A 6-4 forward with good footwork an patience on the block, he's also capable of stepping out to the arc and shooting over defenders. He'll probably be the preseason favorite for POY honors in the class next year.

Second Team

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1622174' first='Luke' last='Hellige'] (Holy Trinity Catholic)
Stats: 26.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.2 steals, 54.4 FG%, 50.6 3P%, 90.6 FT%

Hellige closed out his high school career with a bang, putting up massive numbers for the Crusaders on some ridiculously efficient shooting. A 6-5 wing who can really shoot it, he'll help a small school early.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='2721643' first='Derek' last='Paulsen'] (South O'Brien)
Stats: 21.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 3.9 steals, 53.5 FG%, 37.3 3P%, 79.7 FT%

Paulsen put together a really nice senior year on both ends of the floor, showing that he can be the go-to scorer, playmaker, and impact player on the defensive end. He was really efficient and was a force on a nightly basis for the Wolverines.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765506' first='Brady' last='Boulton'] (Montezuma)
Stats: 28.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 4.4 steals, 51.1 FG%, 42.9 3P%, 91.2 FT%

Another big-time scorer with fantastic shooting splits, Boulton had some massive scoring games as a junior. He can play with or without the ball in his hands, knocking down shots from anywhere or playing downhill and creating quality looks for himself or his teammates.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1759934' first='Hakeal' last='Powell'] (Prince of Peace)
Stats: 33.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.6 steals, 47.1 FG%, 33.7 3P%, 77.1 FT%

Powell led the state in scoring, showing his ability to not only knock down shots from deep off the dribble or the catch, but also to attack off the dribble and put pressure on opposing defenses. He scored 60 against Wilton late in January.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765521' first='Cal' last='Heydon'] (Coon Rapids-Bayard)
Stats: 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals, 56.4 FG%, 38.7 3P%, 68.5 FT%

Heydon is an impressive player to watch on both ends of the floor with his blend of size, length, mobility, and IQ. He's an impact player who can get his teammates involved, score from anywhere, and defend multiple positions.
